'Hip Hop Is Dead' Feat: True Prophet

    True Prophet

    Illus'Artis

The Hip Broke - The Hop Skips

They ask is Hip Hop dead ?..
and what’s happened to the days when dead Prez
could spread vibes that would dance in my head
when emcees said rhymes to challenge the mind
See times have changed, cos now money provides a game
    where its pride VS fame-
either keep your soul or hear your record inside the raves
the real emcees are beginning to fade to black
Gimmicks for tracks, these 'hits' seep crap
and beneath that is the underground, hip hops heartbeat
where artists achieve feats, never reached
    today commercially. Its hurting me
to see 'snap yo' fingers' converted into money
    through the suburbs..
whilst metas and wordplay are a lost art and never heard
    But that’s art these days..
realness is never noticed until its to late

The Hip Broke - The Hop Skips

Hip Hop is dead ? yes.. when controversy was fed ears bled.
Pac and Biggie went brain dead when media spoke with lead.
heads lost legends now no one is destined , hearts shot.
Hip Hop truly flopped when Pun's heart stop.
Culture cried around the globe , block to block.
Now we got limited depth from Kweli to Mos Def -is
perplex and that's def , still the Hip is bruised Hop skips,
when we mistake chics for talent, tits make scripts ,
instead of the Pun , metaphor , cultivating lyrics.
Or speaking from experience no fallacy ish.
Broken the hymen of Hip Hop to emcees,
with ridiculous rhyme schemes, no pure meaning.
craft deemed played and week , yet simplicity
sales ,most emcees are too illiterate to achieve
a high degree of content and vocabulary.
So beef is introduce to produce purchase of CD's.
Hip Hop you know is dead when we think dopeness is 50,
and Hip Hop is not getting shot , or rolling on twenties.
It's expressing yourself through the body,
Using yourself as art from poetry , break-dancing to Graffiti.

Lol, I haven't read hardly anything from you, but you wrote pretty dope here. Your verse felt like you were just skipping along and you didn't really ever stop/start. The flow was on point and your rhymes were pretty good. For the content, you were hitting the right note with that too.. just think its been said far too many times. But you did tell it in a nice way. Big props.. I'll keep an eye out for your shit.

    Illus'-
Very nice. The relevance of your drop held up far more than TP's.. felt like this was your idea as you had shit loads of passion in your verse. Again your rhyming was good, some rhymes did flop/bore me though, but thats something just to by-pass. Nice inclusions of past artists which you decorated the piece with. This felt like it'd be pretty decent on the mic, which is always a good thing.

    Overall-
Nice piece, had almost everything I want in a piece, as you kept me reading throughout. Wasn't over-awed by the whole thing, but I'd definately read it again.
    Props.

& be sure to take a look at my latest piece.

This was nice na mean, pretty good like "Old School (tupac)" style write....TP i liked the way your verse started, preetty good, i read along with no difficulity this shows that the flow was fluent and on point. the rhyming was also good though nothing fresh, still enjoyable na mean. Illus, your name dropping was very good i liked that as it gave it a whole more personal level and showed that you know what your on about. I preferred the flow on this verse though TP's verse's flow was very good to.
Overall, this was a good, enjoyable colab, Stay up.

I feel tha same us u Illus!! Hip Hop is dead! We might disagree on tha reason though. I believe Hip Hop is dead not bcuz artist like Biggie & Pac are gone but bcuz tha spiritual state of these leaderz soulz are disconnected with Thee Lifegiver & tha truth. Letz be honest, the lyriks that are widely spread amongst Hip Hop headz are not in association with "Life" at all. These lyrikz don't give life, it takez lives, hence (Biggie & Pac). I like yr piece bcuz it has a certain truth behind it concerning the state of inadequecy we are all experiencing while listenin' 2 tha garbage spreadin' through tha airwaves. Wordz that pull people away from God rather than pulling them closer to Him. As you said, rhymez of pride & greed. God hates it. They will give an account to Him just like Pac, Biggie, Pun, & all tha rest. I don't know where they are right now bcuz I ain't Thee Judge but I do know what they left behind, a world of mislead children & confused listeners who can't even stand when you even mention Jesus! I encourage u to start spittin' tha Truth of Truths by tha Spirit bcuz I see something in you.

This was tremendous guys. Definitely a topic thats been covered before, so I was a bit hesitant to read, but you both took it and added some uniqueness with your own styles. The verses meld well and the reoccuring phrase "The hip broke - the hop skips" was ingenious. You two are a great collab squad.

Hey, Tru Prophet, I didn't recognize that it was both of yall on this piece. I want to give u propz too for havin' a keen ear in this music realm. Just like I was sayin' 2 Illus, there's iz more at fault for tha death of Hip Hop. I believe tha game can be resurrected but only by Thee Resurrection & The Life (Jesus)! Whether you agree or disagree the fact is many (and I mean many) emcees are makin' the switch right now, and representin' well! In these last dayz "the big change" iz stirring in the soulz of tha chosen. You can even see it in some of these recents posts. Even emcees on this site iz gettin mo spiritual, poeticly! You say "See times have changed, cos now money provides a game where its pride VS fame-either keep your soul or hear your record inside the raves"! I like dat because it's not fake. With a name like Tru Prophet you should represent Tha Light full-time! you & Illus keep spittin whatz pleasin'!
