Is there a reason yall won’t just say his name? Voldemort ass vibes.

Never did care for Mondo Thugz...
I hated the way RV looked but it did have some dope newer features that this one didn't like the radio, battle system (this one got it later) and other stuff. I started there cos a friend of mine in school told me to sign up. His bitch ass was barely ever even on there.

Prime bboys had some of the nicest text battlers from what I can recall.
Resin M-I-C, fracture, butler, timevirus, feel like Hensley was over there too but could be mistaken. Maybe he was RM? Don’t really remember how good guys like Loot and Richard Corey were.

Pretty sure they're the same guy. I think he was banned the last time I was around on that account so I wasn't shocked to see him back under this new name.

Yeah pretty much a lot of the NC people were over there at the time. I think Kempo was running the league if I remember right.

The battle system was always a point of contention somewhat, someone like me had already been at RB battling for 10+ years at that point, noone was gonna go back over our records to make sure they were accurate. They almost wanted a reset as in “From this certain date on is when we’re gonna start it,”. It was never true reflection of who was the best. Biters and cheaters would find ways to beat the system and vote for each other blah blah blah to be ranked #1, or strictly battle newcomers just to pad their records, it created a whole wealth of new issues. It was a decent idea, but the implantation was difficult. Certain battles didn’t count towards site records, maybe 1-2 battles actually? Then overtime you would get things change so that like even POETRY battles got counted. On one hand I get it, count every battle someone did, win or lose. On the other hand, it made some people not even wanna take part unless they thought they might win. You wouldn’t get, for example, primarily text battlers wanting to try their hand at something outside their comfort zone. You wouldn’t have topical heads doing text battles, pic battles, swag and flow or audio ish. They didn’t want to blemish their records. There wasn’t enough incentive to? It was easier to stay in their respective lanes and keep that undefeated record going. It meant something to some, made them who they were. Others were here repping the site all over, text, topical, poems, haikus, 1-2’s, gimmick battles, pic battles, swag and flow… anything and everything, because way back when it wasn’t enough to just be good at one of those things. The “best” were those that could do multiple things to a high level, they were the most well rounded and a problem right across the board. They alternated what they did, maybe they had a preferred thing but they would be good at more than just that one thing. A lot of the old RB champs would be respected across different mediums, it wasn’t considered enough to “just” be good at text battles or just topical battles. The idea was that you aimed to become respected across the diff text landscape, the very best did both to a high standard.
Anyway, enough about that, but that’s how things really began here. The open mic forum and Sacred Scriptures league grew from that, RB has always had a very large Open Mic forum with verses being dropped, a lot of talent stopped through there, this place at one point was known for its topical heads. It could compete with pretty much anywhere. We weren’t the powerhouse like say a RapMusic.com was, but over time the scene here was very competitive. I would argue the topical / open mic scene here was actually stronger than its text battle scene for several years, RB became more known for its topical heads than its battlers for a time. It was our primary thing we were good at. There was even an RB vs RV intersite battle at one point that was taken quite seriously by both sides at the time, the fear was that the admins wanted to see which did better and that would be the one that ultimately won out. We genuinely thought they were trying to replace RB with RV at the time. Perhaps they were, who knows?

Lmao do indeed remember the site battle and how high stakes everyone thought it was.
Good summation bro, always a trip down memory lane.

This place is crazy. Hella memories for me from when I was a literal child competing here all those years ago
So many names I see mentioned that I once looked up to or wanted to compete against to test my pen
I never really considered myself as being up there from a topical standpoint until some had already stopped doing it.
I would have liked to have seen how I matched up against them once I had neared my peak

Yes man to think I googled rap battles in 2003 and found this site is wild shit. I was amazed as fuck at the constant activity and yes all those pitfalls you mentioned did exist, and in a huge way a lot of the time, but it was a digital world, community and a home for a lot of ppl who loved the craft. And even bitches like Guestures ass carved a role out in the community, bad entertaining or both.. a crazy cast of characters some talented, annoying, some meant for bigger things we thought at the time (Kris cain for a while).. someone said SlimThug made an account here.. the one dude that was doing Smack or KOTD dude Kannon (sp?) Actually started here... crew wars, audio tourneys and leagues evolved into video leagues like a decade ago.. it was tight man.. I never really frequented other sites cuz I didn't have to or felt some sense of pride sticking here lmao...
It was a hell of a time to be in the thick of it and can still remember the highs, lows and the some of the cool peeps we all met along the way.
Wonder if that Mariah chic has only fans now....
