Damn outside of crews there was a time when sites would battle each other. RB has always been prominent but there were other sites that were mad active and had the same sort of depth in leagues and crews. Anyone remember UrabanFlows?

funny you said that cos I was looking at my old battles from 2009 (can't go further than that cos I think GOW had to break the database to upgrade vbulletin at some point) and found a site battle between me (BW) and Allen Knight (BE). I didn't even remember battling him before, much less beating him at all haha. I know BW was BraggingWrites but I don't remember what BE was.

I know it, and here’s the thing… The admin, Sylem, was actually a member here first before that site was even a thing. He would ask the admin team about how they went about getting VBulletin and its upkeep and blah blah blah, then he obviously split from here to form his own website.

If I remember rightly, and that’s a long time ago now, his dad was a member of the forum too (and admin?) he was helping run it. I did find that a bit odd back then, but from a parents perspective now Sylem Snr was prob just keeping a watchful eye on what his kid was doing.

I feel like I might have been on that site or a similar one at one point. I remember a sight that had live battles that was like the old school AOL chats with someone playing a beat and dudes just freestyling to them. Them shits was dope but hectic af.

bruhh those crew days were fucking wild. I was like 15 when I first signed up and all that crew shit was so serious for real. I was in jr thinking I was dope cos I champed it then got stomped on in LLL and signed out to go to FL to boost my ego back up. Comp was tough even just to get in back then.

It was such a different style back then too. Like all personals when shit was poppin lol mfs really had beef on this site. Even if there wasn’t crazy ass wordplay or complex shit it didn’t matter because nothing was generic.

I just found the two OM bombs I dropped on Spit and it’s wild as fuck reading them back 20 years later lmao I was literally 16 years old at the time. Nothing but pure personals and going straight for the jugular. Ima have to try looking up Spit’s OMs @ me now lol.

I had first discovered RB and text battles less than a year prior to all this lol.

His shit def withstands the test of time though. Dude had this way of making shit really land as a punch that did damage to a mf’s soul. Always clean and crisp wording to make the most out of a concept.
