How has the economic crisis affected you?

I was thinking about this the other day...
I'm around college students all day so there isnt alot of personal shit going down for them yet.

But today this entire thing hit home...
The money that was invested by my parents when I was young, is now worth shit. I had enough to pay for about $15,000 of the year. Now, about 10,000 of that is gone. We sold off enough for the moment and planned on selling it as needed. Suddenly, in a matter of a week, we cant!
    yay!

So that's how its affected me... You guys?

No one really comes to my job anymore so the day passes slow as shirt 2/5 of the time cause people would rather ride around with dead tags the pay 128 or 180 to renew theirs, and I know thats not too big of a deal but my concern is I'm not vested yet so if they start laying people off guess who's one of the first.

My business volume is down 30 percent. I lost 10 percent in my retirement savings. I wasn't heavy in the stock market I only put 30 percent of the money i save into stocks. the other 70 goes into the treasuries. I can't move most of the money I have in the equity markets because it's my 401k and I would get BANGED with taxes.

I do wish SS would stop coming out my check and I was allowed to invest that myself since were only going to get 75% of benefits if that.

I can't go out and splurge like I used to, everything goes to bills food and gas and I just chill at home, but still. That's a good learning experience. I consider my self fortunate to still have income, my own place with some fairly nice things to occupy my time, and as the house prices and interest rates go down I am talking to a realtor right now, I hope to be a first time home owner in November. Its taught me to appreciate what I have when things are not so prosperous and look for other ways to capitalize.

I haven't checked my thrift savings plan though. I should, I'm just afraid to see how much I may have lost.

Military? you should be good actually if I'm not mistaken they don't put any money into the equity market.

Yea... well ex military. Someone was telling me that because I moved some of my money out of the 'G' fund which was like the portion that just sits there it doesn't grow or decrease - that I may have taken a hit - but I will look into it myself.

restaurant sales are down like 30%... so, less bonus money...

Our store may actually close, it's been talked about, and then I'd have to find something else to do... probably go bottom up and just wait tables somewhere and try to get another front of house manager job somewhere, but, it has hurt... I can't splurge like I used to, have to stay at the crib and drink cheap and only drive as needed...

I agree with what the dude said about learning how to conserve though, being a 90's kid we didn't give two shits about anything, now, it's like, I treat life a little more fairly, I think, rather than on a constant search to satisfy myself and my needs, I gotta think a little more big-picture. Which is good.

I'm actually thinking of changing companies that I work for just to conserve more money.

Ive been offered a position where I'd be working 7 days straight and then having 7 days off. That would allow to conserve money alot more due to traveling less and less days where Im eating out as Id get more time at home.
