a man who liked to battle the odds
me and my boy were court gods hustling for a living a two man squad
everyday gambled for money or possesions
any place or time for bball sessions we outskilled cats answering all questions
me and Mike were masters of our game
magicians of the ball we fast became, feared and respected under the same name
but our win streak was shattered when Mike was caught in a crash
now running my own show for cash the legendary duo ripped in half
strapped for money i balled opponents solo
i won games but in truth i'd never been so low problems off court shadowed my money show
girl trouble little income the list had no end
depressed and deflated in the descend i increased the stakes in games to cover my spend
day after day i continued to win
but the cash just covered loans my zest for life wore thin i told myself to look within and take it all on the chin
finally though a local prodigy challenged me
'first to 21 and its for your house keys' the prize was too big for me to turn down u see

*at 3 o'clock i turned up to meet destiny...but it didnt shake my hand
the day was hot....and sweat drenched my torso from every gland*

    we walk onto the court....

after givin the 'ref' the keys it was time....
few words came to mind....'let's do this' seemed the right kind
a flip of the coin gave 'Local' a head start
hitting the tarmacced surface time to depart a quick check and we were balling hard
the ball became an extension to arms dribbled precisely from palm to palm and shot with intention to do harm
after 20 minutes the score was 14 all court trickery conjured crazy moves with the ball and every basket a closely contested call
we both battled hard the sweat attested our scars
even pegging so far a crowd gathered to see these street stars
with the rock in carry i wanted a gap in scores
a quick fake outside the trey line i let go to a roar but i slipped and it didnt even hit the board
my groan met the spectators gasps
a point gifted when it left my grasp my mind drifted to mike...if only i coulda passed
back to reality and i lost the next points before trailing by one
i couldnt focus and was blinded by the sun digging deep but all i found was none
however i kept the deficit to one point up to 20
one more for him and i'd leave empty but it was in vain...my drive had left me
he scored the winner with a double cross and fade
tears welled inside me with me to this day as the mob crowded round the victor who left me in the shade
a storm brewed inside me at my loss of sense
anger rippled through me i was a hopeless mess....leaving the court i went to nurse regrets.....
with ONE BRICK my house had crumbled from possesion
the philosophical type i had at least learned a lesson
i left to get my things...a long walk for nothing what will the future bring?

    Verse

One brick always sticks out in mind/
From way back when, then I say “My God, does time fly”/
Out of hand, as I try to kick back and spit raps, this crap revolves around my past/
Time spent sling-shotting lies to myself and between your eyes just to threaten your health/
Care is taken when hate initiates its manifestation—typically coinciding with the age of masturbation/
When we angrily weed-whack the lawn of pubes/
Download the futility, look back upon the humility, self-degradation is proved/
Frustrated with frustrations that loom, I sat faux-Amish; Fa’sho’ impoverished/
Immersed in a war on the streets where the forlorn are indiscreetly beat/
Up in the streets I felt I was an actor, beside men who riot and pilot tractors: I became a factor/
Exactly what I planned to enact was a plan of attack/
    All’s I can afford’s an 8-track?!/
Smack the inner-city outsiders for making my family economic outliers/
Discussing a master race? That’s a far cry from me laying here now jamming Masta Ace. . ./
Cat, my rat race to the poverty finish line was sublime/
But rhetoric put my head in the clouds, so I began putting spics spines to the ground/
The thunderous sound of our childhood together pounds me in this stormy weather/
It was a pleasure, but as Oreos we must sever colors. Literally, you’re dead to me now, brother/
How will I explain to mother? Fuck it, her smothering is what left me too awkward for another to take me in/
Sides face-to-face, dividing line? Biological race. Hell on Earth’s the geographic place/
Best believe black boy, tonight your face is red meat/
But I’d bereave that magical night, should my wizard notice the lace on my bed sheet/
Music now soothes it, but as I look back at it, I can’t believe how I went down/
Around the strike of ten our cloaked army bespoke of how we needed to strike some men/
“Fight Back!” we said, “Affirmative Action needs retraction!” They bled following our firm reaction/
We chant “F this side of the city” sitting pretty in our F-150/
We come upon someplace shitty, ghetto donut shop/
Ironically but a block from the shack that put me in this tizzy. We stop/
“Are you with me?!” Indeed! Knees weak, arms heavy?/
Fuck that, I palm my brick—armed and ready/
Half a second, I reckon he didn’t foresee the cinder-block of Gibraltar rock him off our ivory tower/
Smiles beside me grew sour and quickly turned to glowers/
What happened to all our white power?/
Then I saw the men in blue drew their guns drawn/
Holy Shit! That was a God-damned one-off-duty officer of the law. . ./
Came, Conquered, Saw. Oops, sorry, just recapping what they did to me last night in the yard/
Check it, all my problems are solved!/
I’ve never gotten such distance from mom!/
I’ve got a fistful of Vaseline lovers who say I’m the bomb!/
I can almost hear your heart break as we speak, if not for the plexiglass/
My ass poor people can’t afford cell-ular phones/
I shoot bricks inside my house of government bricks where my boyfriends call me “Brickhouse”/
Mighty, mighty letting my pants fall down. Hey! That’s three bricks there now!/
But it only took one to make the structure fall down/

    ^lmao

    well, damn, another tough decision.

fgee-Your verse was dope, and I never would've thought of one brick as a basketball reference. I don't see how you stayed on topic anymore than Shabaz did, because you both just kinda winged the topic in at the end, but your verse was definatly dope. One thing I like about all your verses is that they're so real.
I was feelin it for sure dude.

Shabaz-Damn. This was a nice verse the wordplay was off the hook, and your complexity may have been too much. I could hardly grasp the story, and I had to read lines more than once to understand them. Maybe it's cuz I'm a dumbass. I really, absolutly loved the Cinder Block of Jibralter line. Damn.

Overall a better verse, but it was soo fuckin close.
    Peace
