Two Sides: The Chariot
By Simple Minded
I sit on my porch, and gaze into the night
The air is warm and humble
Crickets play me a harmonious symphony
The seductive wind plays against my face
Teasingly whispers into my ear
Beckoning golden memories
Jubilant days of youth
Glibly Exploring, wrestling, spitting
Gallivanting through childhood
Gallantry abounded
Numerous first experiences
First macaroni necklace for mother
First triumph, first failure
First kiss, from my first lover
Magnificent accomplishments
Sports trophies amassed
Plaques of academic achievements
Accompanied by wedding pictures
I thank fate for the life I have led
For all the golden memories
Staring out over this hallowed land
From the rocking chair of my porch
Silent and regretful
Lamenting the arrival of my chariot
Suddenly, eternal skies erupt
Torrential rains consume the land
Mother Nature scorns Rhea
I witness this terrestrial punishment
And my thoughts are hijacked
By the darkness of humanity
I ponder the state of the world
Over which I painfully consider
The trepidation and the anguish
Which we have succumbed to
I think of children crying
From hunger of poverty
The struggle of their mothers
Day to day unsure survival
I contemplate the devious
Blue collar felons
Slaughtering for naught
Stealing money for drugs
I ruminate on the hierarchy
White collar thugs
Butchering for naught
Stealing drugs for money
My bones grow weary
Of overbearing existence
Regretting waking up
My chariot arrives
An exquisite carriage
Drawn by marvelous doves
…The Sweet Release…
