Shift Life - A Burnt Offering

    A BURNT OFFERING

Standing in the need of grace, hoping for a miracle.

There is hope for even those that have just about given up for any help,
it may lay in a touch of heaven falling on this earth.

Baptised in air, touched by natural, tender tongues bless the weak,
The world is like a moth attracted to the flame, unaware of its deadly heat.

    The living come with grassy tread, To read the gravestones on the hill;
But never anymore the dead. The graveyard draws the living still
The verses in it say and say: "The ones who living come today
To read the stones and go away, Tomorrow dead will come to stay."
So sure of death the marbles rhyme, How no one dead will seem to come.
Yet can't help marking all the time, What is it men are shrinking from?
It would be easy to be clever, And tell the stones: Men hate to die
And have stopped dying now forever. I think they would believe the lie
These barren shores, and jagged cliffs, have stood a million years
The waves have smashed, as the eons passed, and cried their salty tears
A seamist rises in the morn, to hide a ghostly sea
The stage is set, its the same plot, that replays endlessly
Along the shore, a woman walks, and looks out towards the waves
She sees the ship that holds the man she'll love until the grave
She waits so very patiently for it to sail to shore
Because she knows, when anchors drop, her vigil is no more
But as she waits the sky turns back, the wind begins to wail
Now lightening strikes upon the ship, and fire burns the sails
No warning of the storm to come, as waves engulf the ship
This voyage planned, and now most damned, inauspicious trip
She holds her breath and says a prayer and begs our Lord divine
To spare the ship, and save her man, and calm the mad coastline
The wind calms down, sun shines through, and clouds begin to lift
The woman falls, down on her knees, to thank God for this gift
She runs into her sailors arms, as he comes from the sea
The storm was short, and incomplete, but none the less deadly
The fury of the storm was spent, as quickly as it came
Our rescues here so close at hand, if you call our Lord's name.

The Universe merges our life with time, divorces our bind with crime
Each choice a path, destiny defined, merging soul with mind
Circumstances blurring potential, the faith of God confidential
Tragedy bringing pain torrential, Purpose and wisdom ingredients essential
Lives shaped outwardly in, Falling short missing the mark
Lives driven inwardly out, Shaping life around the heart
Shape well your path your journey’s end, Choose goodness in every choice
To all give love, do not offend, In your words, spread God’s voice
The dead of night has arrived, Their rest will soon be near
The hunt is over, the beast survived, It seems they'll perservere
Sleep has finally fell on them, At last their souls find peace
I will not, the beast condemn, For my existance would then cease
Restless joy they have found, They had a delicious feast
And now into the wood abound, To join the other beasts
There are no words or howls or sighs, Until they are safely hidden
Just one look ito their eyes, You'll know this is forbidden
    -
Unwound and drowning, healed to perfect extension
sealed in the depths of imagination - a willing slave to speculation.

Shackled by the scope of the spectrum.
