Its free, and actually finds a decent amount of stuff. AND it actually removes it. All free of charge. That's what I use.

are you sure you have the actual Microsoft Security Essentials das? there is also rouge anti viruses that are actually viruses and have similar names to trick people into downloading them.

I use avast BTW.

I Suggest you post up whats happening on bleepingcomputer.com and get some help. those guys are godly. you might even find an existing thread for it.

I have Avira AntiVir Personal and PC Spyware Doctor. So far, it merks everything if you keep it updated.

No program is perfect though, and no one program will do everything. Every now and then I scan with Malware and others too (but fist turn off the others cuz they can conflict).
