Amber Alert!
I'm taken back to my youth
where thoughts have been kidnapped,
memories trapped hostage,
& my trust thoroughly violated.
Gloomy nights try to place
broken pieces together where the stitching
has ripped apart;
the strings still attach where ethic
has been destroyed.
These scars are paralyzed,
the surface textured, but
the wounds bear no significance.

I choose not to be a victim!
Searching for dysfunction, to
feel wedged in a group that is incomplete,
to fit in.
Virginity catapulted, hoping,
that giving it away
would complete the loneliness I seek to rid.
This nectar was squeezed from love
as it was over-used; never meant in
its proper form.
I quickly became transparent to attachment.

My innocence was taken early in age;
the road to redemption is vulnerable.
A journey is merely an experiment
with consequence; the assessment
to define your soul.

Every man/woman must fend for thyself.
The quest is never easy; the answers
tough to swallow.
Relying on others without finding
the confidence in yourself will only
lead down a dark, selfish, isolated fantasy.

Discovery only comes from with-in
before others can notice
your true worth.
I know I'm a smudge,
in a grunge background,
which impairs any distinction from the similarities
caused by natural selection. I camouflage
in this mask of skin, still lost and insecure.

I've failed to find myself.
I'm withering away, knowing any day,
I can be taken without an identity.

I agree with phX, it's a strong piece that resonates.
You've got some great descriptions, dark paths and sunless emotions.
There's dismal, gloomy atmosphere built, and a tone that's down hearted and desolate.
And you're able to carry that air of sorrow from start to end.
