you've got an idea that actually applies to most music - industry, academic, wherever really. I think it stems from a few things that I could talk about for days but prolly aint worth putting up a word wall on a forum tho lol

basically we don't treat music (like most learned things) as anything with thought - whether we realize it or not it becomes more of a skill. There isn't an explicit distinction made between a personality coming out or proficient use of technique. We also make no distinction between expression and discharge - crying or yelling is a simple discharge of emotion, but an expression actually an emotion that has become clarified and transfigured by the 'artist'. For this reason 'art' can never truly be purely natural or 'real' - it is 'nature transformed by entering into new relationships where it evokes a new emotional response'(john dewey's 'art as experience' is worth reading if you want to work in arts imo)

there's also some cultural and cognitive issues but fuck that lol
