    Riddle Me This.

    every..fucking..letter

    yo,

take your stance on a topic - any opinion debated
favorite pornographic actress, or political statement
the simplest, basic answers for decisions you're makin .. like,
why'd you watch that rerun once the television replayed it?
is it illuminati, mind control, holistic enslavement?
telepathic signals, disney films, subliminal racists?
sociology, one-hundred-one, why the system is tainted
filled with innocent victims of these vindictive caucasians..
heard it all before. advertisements, christians, forsaken
until they can convince us all their mission is sacred.
medicalized, sodomized, high on ritalin, naked
children nowadays exposed to such explicit sensations
the internet is 666, encrypted, digital satan
we've all had these conversations lifted or wasted..
but - is there ONE reason we're addicted to patience?
people lookin stupid, tryna psychoanalyze our civilization.
“your first year in life determines pivotal stages
& whether or not you're destined to work for minimal wages.
attachment to your parents, every little estrangement
molding minds into the same shape as a prisoner's basement”
get that bitch into the kitchen, oven mittens & apron
while we slave away to make this month's utility payment.
my son's shirt is blue, my daughter claiming pink is her favorite
and i sit back and think, damn, this shit is amazing.
why aren't life and death viewed as very similar phases,
while action figures and dolls are seen as different pervasions?
ok, this is your life. why are you sitting complacent,
reading this verse so you can make a critical statement?
each moment, daily challenges you quit or evaded ..
.. the full answer's past the brink of impossibility, face it.
our successes may be mimicked in a distant equation,
by archetypical silhouettes in cylindrical spaceships,
but that can't explain our habits, the autistic, the anxious
biologically defective, crumbled bricks in a matrix.
there's no method to the madness, no invisible agents
tracing our pride & prejudice back to a single occasion,
our ways of thinking aren't notarized by biblical pages,
or internet interfaces, or the wisdom of ancients
there's minorities, majorities, and individual placement
one question: where are you? love, inhibition, or hatred?

riddle me this. beat the horse to death, alive in a graveyard
we're not sheep. just human beings, beneath sunlight of the same star.

“Whenever you find you are on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

    Re: Riddle Me This.

when i clicked on this i was dreading that you might post a vocabulary beyond my understanding but it flowed well.

children nowadays exposed to such explicit sensations
the internet is 666, encrypted, digital satan
why is the net 666? and if you belive that why would you subject yourself to instant failure?

why aren't life and death viewed as very similar phases,
life and death are viewed as similar phases... you can be physically born into the world or you can be spiritually born into the afterlife of the resurrection of life or the resurrection of death - heaven or hell

our ways of thinking aren't notarized by biblical pages,or internet interfaces, or the wisdom of ancients
all those things CAN tell you how to live.

there's minorities, majorities, and individual placement
one question: where are you? love, inhibition, or hatred?
i'm teetering between love and not caring

you cant post a thought provoking piece like this a expect people the just dance around it saying, "that's dope!"

the way you went about this verse WAS masterful but i just had to highlight the things i questioned.

    disney films, subliminal racists?
did you mean disney films; subliminal racists?...
in the way of saying that disney has subliminally racist films?
if so ..i've never noticed that.

Yup, although what I've noticed are more religious themes. Walt put tonnes in his films.

What can I say other than this is a masterful performance.. Emphasis on performance. The showcase of how rhyme scheme can build and bring an elaborate and concise and complex topic together like this is rarely seen. I started to wonder how long the same scheme was going to be held, until I hit "explicit sensations", which was a dope couplet, and I realized you had a lot more left in the tank. This was just an exceptional piece. Bravo, my dude

    Re: Riddle Me This.

well, I've read this enough times so I might as well drop some feed.

I think what sticks out at first is that you kept the same multi scheme for such a substantial portion of your verse, which is truly impressive. I even looked back to see if you repeated certain rhyming words (haters gon' hate), which you didn't, which made the fluidity of the scheme that much more impressive to me. For better or worse, this type of quality has become an expectation at this point.

I liked the way you went about questioning human behavior, not taking a particular stance or espousing anything. You just laid out a lot of different perspectives, from the reasonable to ridiculous, which made it entertaining and provocative. My favorite section was:

we've all had these conversations lifted or wasted..
but - is there ONE reason we're addicted to patience?
people lookin stupid, tryna psychoanalyze our civilization.
“your first year in life determines pivotal stages
& whether or not you're destined to work for minimal wages.
attachment to your parents, every little estrangement
molding minds into the same shape as a prisoner's basement”
get that bitch into the kitchen, oven mittens & apron
while we slave away to make this month's utility payment.
my son's shirt is blue, my daughter claiming pink is her favorite
and i sit back and think, damn, this shit is amazing.
those bolded lines stood out to me the most. The prisoners basement one was a sick metaphor, what a way to encapsulate the punishing influence societal norms can have on our identity. The "blue is for boys, pink is for girls" part struck a chord with me, cuz I see that daily at work with my students, and it trips me out to see how gender roles are doled out and strictly enforced at such a young age it's hard to discern if it's nature or nurture (though I typically find myself on the side of nature in most things). I also liked that life/death dolls/action figures line, very clever analogy. It reminded me of a poem by Franz Wright called "Octaves," you should check it out.

Anyway, this is a pretty well-rounded piece. My only critique is that I thought it ended on a bit of a grey note. It fit, so it worked, and really it's hard to summarize such an extensive exegesis, but I would have liked to see a more...original(?) conclusion. I thought that's where you were going with the "answers are past the brink of possibility, face it" line, that we're incredibly complex yet incredibly malleable at the same time, but then I felt like you settled with the ending a bit. Like I said, it still fit well, and we arrived at the destination naturally, but I think you could have done more. All in all, a small gripe in the grand scheme of a dope verse.
