Towel trick is the stupidest thing..It makes no sense at all. The Red Rings is caused from overheating......Soooo, wrapping a towel around it and turning it on, causing it to overheat. That won't solve the problem lol. It might make it come on, but it'll red ring again in no time.
If xbox won't do anything...Which if it's from 2008-2009, I can't really see them doing much. Then I'd say either:
A.) Do the penny trick with it to get it working, then sell it on craigslist as a working xbox
or B.) Find someone on Craigslist who buys red ringed xbox's, and put the profit towards a new xbox.
I had an Elite xbox (Older model black xbox) that red ringed. I did the penny trick and got it to work, but of course it wasn't a permanent fix. So I found a guy on Craigslist who buys broken Xbox's. I negotiated with him and wound up getting him to pay $120 for it. Met him in the Best Buy parking lot, got the cash from him, then went inside and bought one of the arcade xbox's.
Upgraded to the new slim Xbox with Kinect..So selling my Arcade xbox soon.
