Pun's widow Liza Rios claims that it was "disrespectful" to record the track without her blessing.
After Joell Ortiz released his version of the track “Big Pun’s Back,” Pun’s widow Liza Rios isn’t happy with the results. In a Facebook post, she wrote that she considered it “disrespectful” for the Slaughterhouse rapper to claim he’s the next Big Pun.
“A lot of people are asking how I feel bout the Joell Ortiz BIG PUN is Back,” she wrote. “Well it was a good attempt on Joell Ortiz part BUT a BIG PUN he will Never be! Found it a bit disrespectful that he would say he the next Christopher Lee Rios to say the least.. With no regard to Me and My family especially My Son PUN’S Only Son which should Be the ONLY one to Claim that BIG PUN is Back.”
She continued by reiterating that it’s her son’s “birthright” to continue Pun’s legacy. “[L]et me tell u something if Puns tourch is being passed donwn then it will be to his Son it’s His Birth right Not Joel..,” she continued. “And the fact that he didn’t even ask to begin with to see if I was kool ‘Passing the tourch’ is Disrespectful!! Point blank.. At the end of the Day Only how I feel matters cuz that’s My Husband My Name My Tourch to Pass!!”
Joell already responded on Twitter by dismissing her tirade. “Shout to Nicole, Pun's Sister and MaMa Pun for the kind words. GOD will judge by my intentions. Im good with that,” he wrote. “No matter how good your intentions may be there will always be some negativity if you take action. still gotta do what you feel is right.”
The bolded part is why.. she taking a simple song too serious, and I highly doubt she has any say over Big Puns music, or that what Joell could get sued. Plus, just cause Pun died doesn't mean it should be up to her to be able to say who is the next ''Big Pun'' or not, unless someone started to call themselves Big Pun like Rick Ross did to the real 1.. not to mention if she heard a no-namer do a song like that, she wouldn't make an issue out of it. She either going broke or just a bitch
