I see. Personally, I've given this subject a great deal of thought, but have yet to settle on a firm position. Really, I see ghosts and aliens as two different approaches at grasping the same thing--the unknown. That is, ghosts are emotionally rooted (spirits of our ancestors here to help/hurt us, etc) whereas the belief in aliens tends to stem from an intellectual font. In any case, I think people naturally gravitate towards the idea that there is something else in the universe which we can't aptly describe or understand.

Consider this, TheeMoistPuss. Although you appear to chalk up the belief in ghosts to brain problems, there is arguably more evidence for their existence than aliens. And that includes even primitive alien life (bacteria, for example). As of September 14, 2010, there is literally zero hard evidence for alien existence, despite concentrated scientific effort to discover it.
On the other hand, there have been countless more reported ghost "encounters" (the only "evidence" either have besides speculation), and absolutely no organized effort to discover or contact ghosts from the scientific community.
Ghosts, yes. Aliens, yes.
I've had "experiences" with the paranormal. I know a lot of people who have.
And aliens, shiiit. Earth is the tiniest percentage of anything in this universe. I feel that people are ignorant to honestly believe that there's no chance of extraterrestrial life.
