honestly this is FUCKED... once everything is done for the mixdown stage...
I have everything set perfect, right... mix down and my vocals are like 5x louder than the beat.... ok so I go back to my session... make it so my beat is easily overpowering the vocals... mixdown... and the vocals still overpowering... how can this possibly be?... wtf
are mixdowns always this FARRRRRR off from the actual session?......
no... you did somethin' wrong... put it back the way it was, and post a screenshot of before-mixdown... also, what are your mixdown settings in Preferences???

if anyones interested to my solution to that problem... I had EQ with default all 0 settings on my instrumental, when I took that off it stopped fucking up.
well, that's good... but also, I see that you've got the level on your vocal tracks boosted way up... if you compressed, and then added makeup gain to increase the perceived "loudness", then addin' more gain to the vocals is overkill... my vocals are usually turned down one or two decibels by the time I'm done, and more than that on dubs and adlibs... but, it seems like you're learnin' so just keep at it...

oh damn, what are your vocals usually at in the finished mix? like 1 or 2?
I just notice like.. when lower it comes out so quiet, so I just turn everything up til it's blended well & so that the final mix is peaking at -2, slight touches of -1
but I'm guessing the fact I'm even fucking with the volume levels after the mix is a bad sign in general
as long as the mix isnt clipping you should be ok, but add the gain post fader (ie on your preamp) rather than adding gain in the mix
i usually end up with a mix about -6 to -3 db then you have some headroom to do a bit of mastering
