How can RP's give you a major boost in ERA and K's? It'll take them a week of starts to get enough K's to match a SP and how can one inning pitched with a 0.00 era majorly boost 6 IP's of a 'blank' era? It can't.

Say a pitcher pitches 6 innings and let is 3 runs. That's a 4.5 era. Factor in 1 IP from a reliever with 0 ER's, that just boost your ERA up to 3.9. And that's only with one starter. Your starters should give you about 35-40 IP's and if you have 3 closers, they will only give you about 10 IP's. Those 10 IP's will not matter that much in an ERA considering that some of your RP's will have a blown save here and there and end up with a 18+ ERA from time to time.


And Smoka... I didn't say catcher was less valuable cuz the position is shallow. I think it's less valuable cuz catchers don't give you as many starts as other players do, they wear down faster, and they are just not as good of hitters. If they were regular hitters, most would not even be drafted. That's why I think they are less valuable.

This is basically how I see the trade.

Holliday>Hawpe (obviously, and by alot)
Javier>Wells (although Wells is a good up and coming pitcher)
Hoffman>Lindstrom (this is also obvious)
Rauch<Sheets (I say this particularly because Rauch has a situation in Minny where he may not be the closer come october. There are plenty of RP waiting in the wings, so not much job security, Sheets is coming off injury and isn't going to get alot of run support but he he'll play clubs like SEA and LAA, who has less pop this year, and alot of AL Central teams, in an unfriendly hitter park, he should be fine.

So I vote no because the differential between javier and wells, Hoffman and Lindtrom isn't big enough to make up for the gap between Holliday and Hawpe IMO.

Javier is the best pitcher in that group... Holliday is the best fielder. All the rest is pretty even. Lot better then that Ryan Howard trade.
