    Your Ethic

What sort of Ethic would you say you follow?
    Deontological (Duty)?
    Consequential?
    Virtue theories?

    Or whatever...

    Re: Your Ethic

I never gave ethics much thought. Any particular place to begin?

Consequential, is that like Newton's law of motion...?

I'm a utilitarian is what I mean to say.

    ugh, I hate utilitarianism

I really dislike cultural relativism because it assumes a liberal politic (liberal meaning secular, enlightenment influenced academia). For instance, I recently read a thing about a gal who was an anthropologist and ethicist. She was a devout cultural relativist making the point that whatever is 'good' means 'culturally accepted.' But when asked about racism in South Africa, she stated instead that the country was 'sick' and that the real ethic had been oppressed. In other words: Everything is relative until its something so disgusting that you cant help but state that is wrong no matter what.

    but utilitarianism gets me more.

    ^ na...
This is could lead to conversation on God, if ethics are infused with us, if they're all cultural, if its individual.... There is lots to go with.

Hosea: Kant had a concept that was thus: act as if your action could be universalized. That is, if everyone in this world acted in such a way, that the world could continue on in a healthy way.

you know after giving it a little thought I've come to the conclusion that I'm a total hedonist.
