    Want to improve my setup.

I have the shitty samson co1u and i'm fed up with it. I feel like I might as well use my fucking internal mic. Idk much about what to get or anything like that... I know practically nothing lol.

What is your opinion on what I should get as a complete setup?

I would only like to spend around 300 - 400 dollars but if that's not realistic for a complete set up, I'll spend around 500 (that hurts).

    Thoughts?

    Describe a "complete setup".

for 3-400 dollars, you're not getting much good equipment. Search e-bay for deals on popular items. Interfaces are all becoming very similar, the main differences lie in the driver stability, preamp quality, and converter quality (although, with a 400 dollar setup, converters will be the last thing you'll notice degrading the signal). Um, I think a split right down the middle would work best, half the budget for a mic, half for the interface to use it. Rode NT1-a stands out as a rock solid 200 dollar mic, less on e-bay if you find trustworthy sources.

Not many 200 dollar interfaces come to mind, really. Um, there's the M-Audio Firewire Solo. The Echo AudioFire 2. The PreSonus Inspire 1394. I think that you can generally expect similar quality from all the aforementioned products. I have the Inspire, got it free as a mail-in rebate with my FireStudio, I never gave it a shot though, never needed to. PreSonus makes some solid gear though, slow when it comes to driver updates, but generally rock solid stuff.

There isn't much you can do with that budget, hell, I spent twice that on my new interface alone. Gotta love tax-mas!
