I'm at college, studying graphics then hopefully going on to be a qualified designer.
There's easier money to be made in real estate.
A formal qualifacation isn't everything, there's kids in my class that can't design for shit and will never get a job. But they will still pass the course.

I've been using photoshop and image ready for 6 years lol moved onto flash recently and starting to get the hang of programming now. So I'd say I could design tbh but who knows, opinions are opinions.

It all depends on the clients needs. Doing small websites isnt where the money is at. You need to work with partners to get the real cash. Usually it works best when one person is the artist, one person is a php/javascript/sql guru, and one person is the publisher/promoter. Everybody is essential to the job, nobody is more important than the other. When you can find a good team and everybody understands what their job is, you can really get good websites going. I agree with the above statement to an extent but that link, 24 media, is the type of designers I hate. In fact they are NOT web designers or developers at all, they are graphic artists and nothing else. If they were online marketers or programmers then they would understand why the all flash work they do is pretty but in all actuality is shit work. There is no thought given to usuability, SEO or page load. Those are sorry excuses for developers that seem to use flash even when flash shouldn't be used, probably to cover their lack of actual development skills.
