I Am Strong
His father was a dealer, ran the streets all day
A pimp leasing women for the sheets all day
Brought up, to be caught up in the way his father was livin
Never given the opportunity or support from his community
To wake up and break up the cycle and take his life back
Instead, he continues on the path of demolition
Dead in his head from the wrath of cognition
He’s created from the fabricated ideas
He’s conformed from years in the hood
Misunderstood, inside he fears as his heart fills with tears
Wants to do good, start livin right and ignite his sons mind
A vision of life away from guns and crack
But he’s on track for prison or the cemetery
To be buried by the only one he loves he shoves
Aside scary thoughts of being murdered by haters
Needs guided and taught so he turns to his creator
This is my life, I’ll try to change
As I go on, it’s all I know
When I am weak, then I am strong

It’s not what I get, it’s what I give
Please Father, teach me to live
He wants to put the streets behind him, refine his behavior
His savior, the Lord to remind him, he finds a job
For $6.85 an hour, but he’s empowered, his minds
Optimistic, it’s realistic to continue this route
Without doubt as he rocks his son to sleep
There’s a shout, he blocks the door but they sweep in
Rob the place, and lace the walls with slugs on drugs
High on meth he’s scared to death that his boy is harmed
Gets to his room just in time for his sons last breath
In his arms, he falls to his knees as he pleads with God
To let them switch places as he faces life with his son
The one he loves, he braces himself and says..
“I came to you for direction but you gave me rejection
Instead of the protection we needed your affection is fake
It was a mistake even seeking you. Speaking with you every night
Thought we’d be alright, you’re a fraud, why’d you let this happen?”

He gives in, his life has changed with a wife
And family, his heart remains torn apart from his
First borns slaying, willing to keep praying and speaking
To God, seeking resolve for the killing as he evolves
And began to change as a man to the plan
God created and patiently waited to perfect
And connect him to eternity, with a test
To press him to confess and attest that God
Is real and heals even the worst of pain
To remain in our lives, it seems insane the gain
We receive when we leave our hopes and dreams
