    Monitors/speaker help

so i just got a behringer c3 mic & a lexicon lambda interface.
not my first choice stuff, but i got a great deal on ebay so i coped im.

anywayz i need a solution to my monitoring

i have cheap shitty £10 headphones and cheap shitty £10 computer speakers
theyboth sound like a bag of crap

what im wantin to do is wire my stereo hi-fi speakers up to my interface, iono whether or not i could use a 3.5mm jack & run em off the headphone amp in the interface?

or would i need a seperate amp?

i cant afford no monitors yet .

plus btw are active studio monitors self amplified or do they req a pre?

    ta

    active monitors have built-in amps...

stereo hi-fi speakers won't serve well as monitors, they're designed to sound "good" when you listen to music rather than to reference the audio... your lambda should have audio outs, either 1/4 TRS or RCA plugs that you may be able to run to an audio receiver that powers your speakers...

You're far off from needing monitors.

But to get your stereo speakers working with your interface, you need a stereo receiver with RCA inputs in the back, and RCA cable, and 2 RCA female to 1/4" TS male adapters. Plug one end of the cable into the adapters. Plug the adapters into the Line Outputs on the back of your interface. Plug the other end of the cable into your stereo RCA Inputs. Plug your speakers into your stereo. Set the stereo input to whatever you plugged the RCA cable into. You should be good to go.

I rolled like that for quite a while, but I opened up my speakers and installed three-way crossovers in 'em... they were some pretty nice Yamaha home speakers, 3.5" tweet 6.5" mid and 12" woofer... but then I bought some okay-ish monitors...

    dope thanks.

reason i want monitors or speakers is mainly so i can hear my shit at some volume without distortion, like how itd sound on a hifi or in my car without havin to burn a disc, try it, re do it, waste a disc etc.

    jus wanted some volume
