The Blueprint 3 is the eleventh studio album by American rapper Jay-Z,[1] set to be released December 2, 2008.[2] This will be his final album on the Def Jam music label before he begins recording under the record label, Live Nation.[3]
Background
The original hype for The Blueprint 3 came when DJ Clue released a mixtape song called "Ain't I" produced by Timbaland. In the intro, Clue said, "Off that Blueprint 3 baby!" However, a spokesperson for Jay-Z said that the song was an older unreleased Jay-Z song and that the Blueprint 3 hadn't begun.[4] No ideas for a new album surfaced until Jay-Z stated in interviews that he will be working on a new album.[5] Production will be done by Kanye West among others, with Jay being the executive producer. This album is the third installment in the Blueprint series.[6]
Timbaland originally said he was doing the album, at which point Kanye flew to Germany to meet up with Jay-Z and gave him one beat CD with approximately fifteen songs on it. Kanye then flew to Hawaii where Jay was working and from there they finished most of the album. [2]
On August 6, 2008 the album was confirmed by Kanye West and Jay-Z during Kanye's Glow in the Dark Tour.[7] Jay-Z was called onto the stage by West to perform "Jockin Jay-Z" along with West.
On August 22, 2008, a song called "Swagga Like Us" was leaked onto the Internet. A video is conformed to be shot in the near future for "Swagga Like Us" T.I. stated that the song will be featured on his album, Paper Trail as well as The Blueprint 3.[8] The song has been confirmed as the first single and was released as a digital download on September 6, 2008.[9]

Timbaland has stated that he will produce the whole album. However, Jay-Z later confirmed that no such project existed and that at the moment he would be open to all producers if they came up with something original and fresh to be considered for a possible future album.[10]
Swizz Beatz confirmed to MTV that he will also be producing for the album saying, "I gave him the out-of-control Swizz". "You'll see. Out of control!"[11]
Kanye West produced the first song titled "Jockin Jay-Z". It was premiered on August 8 on the New York City radio station Hot 97.[12]
A video is confirmed to be shot in the near future for "Swagga Like Us"
