    Re: So, I have Reason 4. . .

reasons my shit...i used fruity, but i feel like reason is just as easy to learn as FL

one reason y i love reason is cuz of the nnxt...shit is so versatile...i love makin custom kits in it, so easy to just add a sound, change velocity parameters, release, filters, name it, its just a couple clicks away

i gotta get THOR down tho, i havent realy foxed with him yet...i have a feeling we're gonna be real close soon

Word. I never realized how Fruity was really designed until I actually used a hardware sampler like an MPC. It's definitely designed to be the software version of a hardware sampler. But Reason is also very sampler based. But it also has a lot of different synths as well. I know just as many beat makers that use each program. I guess Reason IS pretty inferior without a MIDI controller tho.

And smoka... Reason 4 just came out not too long ago like last year. Propellerhead doesn't make a lot of software tho. They're like Image Line with FL Studio. They make their main program along with add ons for that program. Some of their add ons like Rewire and Recycle catch on with other program developers as well. The Rewire protocol is now an industry standard for syncing DAW apps. They keep this protocol up to date so it can be used with the latest feature sets between programs. Also, Reason is shipped with Pro Tools so they're not going anywhere anytime soon.

reason...i cant praise it enough...im so wide open for it

on the real tho...i feel like reason is just as sample based as fl, just gotta know what to use, reason is pretty much like having your own rack with hardware, the good thing is, you can have multiple pieces of the same equipment,

so, STOP SLEEPIN on REASON, cus its the SEASON for TREASON from all the other gay ass SEQUENCE-ERS

    Re: So, I have Reason 4. . .

i would argue that its alot easier to use samples in FL than in reason.
but reason is way beyond fruity loops in terms of midi sequencing, and composing.

    Re: So, I have Reason 4. . .

i dont know cain...if you have a template setup already, id say they're pretty much the same...i would agree with what youre saying as far as mapping out the samples in the nnxt and editing each samples parameters THE FIRST TIME, but if you already have a template set up, id say, they are relatively similar

thats one of my only gripes about the program, its almost too in depth wit shit, therefore nothings easy...i feel like thats on the the first time tho

i can make so much shit wit reason, like multiband compressors wit unlimited eq channels...you literally have the ability to do whatever you want wit the shit...now that 4s out...theres a big difference, you pretty much have a multitrack midi recorder...wit the basic plugs and the ability to make elaborate plugs

im rambling, i think i nutted 3 times when i typed that

    Re: So, I have Reason 4. . .

it wouldnt be hard to make a beat on a laptop...i actually feel it would be better...its portable...therefore inspiration doesnt fade

only thing i could think of is limited firewire/usb slots and limited hd space but you dont need any external equipment to make a beat

    Re: So, I have Reason 4. . .

the downfall of laptops is they're slower and they don't have a lot of room for expansion. If you're using a program like Reason, FL Studio, Live, GarageBand, or Logic and you're using only the built in plugins then you can sequence on a good quality laptop without too much power limitation. Once you start using VSTs, try to mix, or you can't afford a good laptop then you're going to want a desktop. And now that Vista is being loaded on new laptops, this fact has never been more true.

With that said, if you don't have a real need for a laptop then why get one? You get a lot less for a lot more money. For the cost of a good laptop you can build the most amazing PC you've ever owned plus a couple pieces of gear to go with it. Buying a laptop to make music when you really don't need one is just financially irresponsible.

    Re: So, I have Reason 4. . .

    yea

    monster laptop = decent desktop

as in... you can get a 8-core desktop for the same price as a 4 core laptop. The desktop is always gonna be more beastial, and lower priced than the laptop equivalent.

it's cool to have inspiration strike were ever you go, and be able to lay down something...

but you dont want to pay that much for a insuperior machine just to catch inspiration.
thats why they make portable digital recorders... you can even get them in multitrack now, and with stereo condensor mics built on. Beat box your idea, and hum your melody, and then take it home and mash it out on the main computer.
