    Music producers

Theoretically say you have a studio and you want to strictly produce, what are you looking for in an artist? Like a diamond in the rough that you can work with and learn him up, or the whole package: Flow+lyrics etc.. from a business standpoint what kind of rapper is he/she. Gangsta greezy, political, napsacker. What you think would sell and to who you sellin in todays music climate

well, i'd be lookin for the hunger in the artist as well as the potential to be original. they dont necessarily have to have the total package... but definitly some orginality that sticks out. originality is key. i'd look for a gangsta greezy/witty type of artist... someone that can flip shit. i think the gangsta greezy and catchy hooks of the artist will catch alot of mainstream attention but the lyricism and wittieness would never be described as dumb it down... so it would sell to both mainstream listeners and strictly-lyrical listeners.

^ just an off the top the head plan.

I look for talent that can't be defined by pre-existing labels.

I dont agree. Good music will be liked by listeners of good music. Some people make bad music under the guise of originality. Obviously, as a business you would seek marketable originality.

dude who the fuck cares gangster political nerd w/e.. personally i encourage ignoring existing genres.. invent something new.. you can't define an ideal artist because art is different, people make different kinds of art.. it just has to be good art.. you can't have it down to a science

imo good successful artists are noticed because they are 1, highly psychologically-developed, and 2, artistic geniuses.. they continue to stay successful by being masters of reinventing themselves.. these kinds of people know who they are..they are aware about everything that makes them them.. you gotta know everything about you in order to be the best person you can be.. from there on you have mastered different ways to express yourself.. its all about being you
after all music is about self-expression

im not a music producer but w/e

i dont like working with rappers

I want a singer who is driven, easy going, and open to try new stuff style wise. Because if he/she sings a certain way, and wants to only make songs they are comfortable with... whats gonna happen if a opportunity comes to get a placement.... but they have to write songs that arent there style?

Yea, but I dont want to work with any rappers... cuz a large majority of rappers who are "going for the gold" are conformists. They will try to demand a certain sound out of there producer, and there musicians... instead of vice versa.

Music first..... then you express yourself over that music. You gotta be a real gifted writer to get it vice versa.
    Welcome to reality.
