Fire Earth Water Wind
et aperiens os suum,
devoravit illos cum tabernaculis
suis et universa substantia eorum.
(Num. 16:32)
hidden, i stare through cracks in scenery,
watching worlds transform and melt away.
ice children place cold hands beneath their arms
just trying to keep warm.
their breath curdling, flying away,
shaking in wire coats, splitting words like fire wood;
divine sparks create small licks of flame,
while they burn each word for warmth.
I see sons of Korah gathered round
taking vows and creating lies;
refusing to march towards their own destiny,
for rebellion has become their fate.
i watch the earth below pull at their heels;
returning to soil, becoming the ground.
the land which swallows has now grown sick;
and in time we shall rise to meet again.
from behind the cyprus i gaze towards town
watching seas of people flow from their homes,
while lights from churches crest upon buildings
and darkness reaches from the damp alleyways;
these belong to the night, to death and to folly.
I watch as distinctive colors become gray
while order becomes chaos, land becomes sea
and rushing Spirit again hovers over the waters.
I'm unsure of my location, for each room looks the same
I stare into the mirror, captured in eternity
i'm hastily running through endless corridors
watching as distinctions are swallowed in florescent void
hopelessly exhaling, i'm near asphyxiation
when suddenly in darkness i awaken to strong whispers,
saying, "Son of man: do you know, shall these doors be opened?"
and before my eyes dark night becomes the coolness of the day.
