    Phantom Power?

So I just bought a brand new mic...an MXL 2003...Its a studio condensor mic...i came home and hooked it into my pc...I was ready to record but after hookin up my mic and pushin record on all i get is tons of feedback...kinda like the cord wasnt pluuged' in...i was wondering what might cause this...i read something about phantom power but i dont know what it is...my mic needs it but is it gettin' it and if not how do i get the phantom power to my mic...

note: it is not the cord thts causin the problem i've used it with other mics...and i cant hear any vocals after recording jus the feedback...

    Re: Phantom Power?

u have to have a preamp/mixer/interface of some sort that has phantom power on it...which is also called 48v most of the time....without that your mic isnt going to work...most condenser's have to have phantom power....

    Re: Phantom Power?

so today i went out and bought the M Audio interface that i put a link to above...but for some reason I still can get it to work correctly...does anyone know why it wont record from the usb device...is it because its a condensor mic...or is there something i need to do on my pc to get it to work correctly...i use cool edit 2 for recording...i have changed the wave in put device and the recording device to be the M audio interface but still no recording...i can get it to send the sounds im playing to the headphones hook'd to the interface....jus not to pick up from the mic...

    edit in:
so i jus read tone the website that the usb device i linked to above does not support phantom power...FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!

any other solutions or another device that actaully will work...

    Re: Phantom Power?

any preamp or interface will be fine, as long as it has phantom power....

whatever u buy, just make sure it has 48v, or phantom power, whichever one they call it for the piece u buy...
Presonus TubePre has 48v/phantom power...costs 100 bucks brand new...but u can probably snag a used one for 40-60 bucks..maybe even cheaper if u try e-bay...
