The only reason countries get away with talking all that shit to us is because were bound our own ethics that we impose on other countries. Notice how N.Korea stfu after China told them to stfu, because china doesn't have any code of ethics like the U.S and will invade there sorry asses. The U.S is probally using 1/16 of it's technology/resources in these countries. If they dropped a nuke, chemical bomb, or something similiar, you'd see the power we possess.

no, we didn't help Iraq in the first Gulf. . The Kuwaitis were slant-drilling into Iraqi oil fields, so Iraq invaded Kuwait. . that's when we intervened. .
Iran has hated us since forever. Ahdmanizjad is actually good leader for his country, except when it comes to foreign policy. He's a moron. Even in our weakened state, we have allies all around Iran as well as the most capable military in the world. Yeah, we'd take a hit to our economy, but Iran would take a major hit to it's population levels.
If Bush was smart, he'd do it like his daddy did and tell the Saudis that if they want Iran taken care of, (which they do) they'll fund our war. Either way, it looks as if within the next few years it's going to hit the fan, so we might as well not spend as much money on it.
