    Once again..........

Studiophile BX5a by M-Audio, are these any good?

For those who have known me for awhile, I've struggled with purchasing monitors. Now, it's not that I can't afford a decent set, it's just the room I'm going to be mixing in.

I live in 2 cities, and transport my equip every 2 weeks between houses. In one house, I mix in a big open room, and at the other, I'm in a small room.

i went to the local music store and tried a bunch out. The only ones I found work real good in both situations (big/small room).

So again I ask you; what monitors for around $600 US should I get for this situation?

you should get some acoustic treatment for your rooms.

    lol

then you wont have to worry so much about it.
thats if you can do that for the rooms you work in.

anyway... i think the bx5's would be right for your situation, you need stuff to be lightweight as possible, but still decent.

My only other option would be the dynaudio bm5a's.
but you probably not gonna spend that much on some monitors.

    Re: Once again..........

Well, I'm hopeing to get about 2 years out of them for now, what are the prices for the dynaudio's?

And I do have the expensive foam shit in both places. The one house, has 2 drum kits, amps, guitars, basses, keyboards, etc.

the other one, has my recording booth, all my turntables and vinyl, etc.

But both have the foam. I was just wondering, cuz at the store I tried some monitors, that had completly different sound, depending on when we were in a small padded room, and a big padded room.

    Re: Once again..........

thats because of the acoustic setup of the room again

your not going to get the exact sound out of 2 different rooms, you can only get close.

    especially 2 different sized rooms

for the bigger room naturally you'd need bigger monitors, and for the smaller one you'd need something smaller.

    here's your solution...

these monitors come with a "room calibration" kit.

these may be out of your price range, but this would probably be the most ideal setup for you. With the monitor control system it has, you could easily switch between the settings for your different rooms.

I think you should save and get these if there out of your range. Its the most efficient solution to your unique problem.

    Re: Once again..........

well, thats about 1600 CDN monies.

yea, maybe I'll save up a bit more. I didn't think of that. I knew they had calibration kits, and you could do that, I just never imagined spending that much.

I had the oppertunity to mix one of my older tracks, on a set of the BX5a's and I liked the sound I got, and finally got to see/hear the importance of good monitors.

So, I guess, this should be the answer.....guess I'll wait a bit longer to get a new Tower. :/

thx Kris, and if anyone else has another opinion, please let me know.......
