    whats the difference between Passive and active?

    yeah im looking to buy a few sets of Monitors. but first I wanna know the difference between Passive and active

    can ya help me? please?

    passive- not self powered(no amp you gotta buy seperate)

    active- self powered (has a build in amp)

    buy active monitors... do NOT buy passive... you will blow them within a month...


    you need a clean amp for passive... so you usually spend more for passive... because you need the amplifier and a power box to clean the power going to the amp...

    besides... if you don't match the watts exactly... you'll blow them...

    and the amps that come with active monitors are perfectly placed with those monitors... and in most cases the passives are slightly shittier. Buy active.

    not true@the "you'll blow them" part... maybe this newbie kid will blow them, but they dont "blow" any quicker than active monitors...

    and passives are actually proven to sound better
    it depends on the amps you get, (thats why people will buy passives)
    most mastering engineers use passive monitors, so do alot of pro studios.
    because then they can buy these super amps that are way better than the built in amps that are in the active models.

    and alot of the really high end monitors arent even sold in active versions. Like the ausberger (sp) and all those types...
