    serious question for serious beatmakers and producers

    x-mas is over...i got about $90-100 to buy a drum machine. i was thinking maybe go to the local pawn shops and getting one b/c i've seen some in there for $76. but is there another way i can go? any specific models i should look for? make, year? im looking to create more of a boom bap sound.

    um i would use fruity loops and download drum sounds for it. that's free.

    You should've posted this in the audio helps/tips forums if you wanted some serious replies. Anyways....

    That's probably your best bet (the pawn shop) if you arent willing to move out of that range, because in terms of what hardware runs a hundred bucks is nothing. Seriously, it can get pricy. You might want to peep Ebay too for deals. Though if i were you i'd do some research and maybe check out all your options first before you decide to drop any amount of cash on hardware. For some one who has never made beats before a software program like fl might be a better choice. It's easier to pick up on plus you can get nearly anything you need for free. That way if you get bored or decide production isnt your thing you won't have to kick yourself for wasting money.
    Different strokes for different folks though, figuring out what works best for you is the most important thing.

    There's tons of different kinds, MPCs being the most popular. Hit up some music retail sites or do a google search to get a better idea of the selection.
