She sits amidst their grips, tired and depleted
Her stern glare is concerned with their welfare & eating.
As their bare stomachs are churning,
Barely are they breathing.
And the cold air adds to their despair this evening.
Needing more than their fair share…
They share her body for heat.
And with no food anywhere… they look towards mommy to eat.
But mommy is weak and bleak is her outlook.
She was beat for her hope & couldn’t keep when her doubts shook.
Yet, she isn’t unique… For each street seeks their account’s crook…
And the amounts took, have amounted to a mountain of pain.
As poverty’s names surmounted…
There was no announcement of blame.
The game of life became… a fight to survive, surrounded by shame.
Her aim was to keep them alive while trying to stay the same.
As the strain remained to keep them fed & not hungry at bed time…
She got up early everyday to head over to the bread line.
Only to instead find… the line to be around the block.
And she would get some food a lot less often then not.
So she got what she got whenever she could get it.
And before when depression struck she never let it…
Get her upset, she would just try to forget it
But never has a depression been this Great…
To effect every part of the United States.
