    Are horror movies too predictable?

    Or is it just me?

I find myself knowing what will happen for the rest of the movie around half an hour into it now, it really fucking takes away the joy of watching horror movies at all. The last movie to surprise me with it's twist was Saw, and granted, that movie fuckin owned me.

So, have I officially seen too many horror movies to be surprised anymore, or is it this way for everyone?

it's the same for any genre of film as long as you've seen a good handful of the conventional stuff, you know like when something starts off as a special thing, then so many people do it that it becomes the norm? it's like that, you're kinda familiarised with the unconventional/abnormal shit that you see in the movies to the point that you find it normal, so now you just expect it.

    i think

Saw 3, if that's what you meant, it had a cool twist I thought as well!

You mean like how most comedy movies nowadays have the main character have some love interest and the end of the movie end in some preachy life lesson?

You seem to have a point.

Nah, the first Saw. I knew what would happen in Saw 3 quick as fuck, but it was still a dope movie.

well I never watch scary movies really until the Saw series, which are more gory than scary anyways, but that was a dope twist to me, I didn't realize that shit, but when the guy got into the hospital room, I knew what was up....took me a while I guess then.

Horror movies like Saw always have a few ominous quotes that they flashback to at the end, so if you catch them, you'll see the end coming way before it actually does.

    yeah

like recently i saw Step Up and noticed that it's just like any other high school drama set in the "hood"

racial conflict, rich and poor, friends and love interests clashing, the passion for a hobby and the typical innocent gang related shooting, happy ending

coach carter had that, save the last dance had it etc etc.

so now it's not that interesting u know

I see what you mean, but I'll never think like that when watching them.

sometimes being able to predict parts of the story isn't that important in a horror film, because it's not so much the curiosity of the future that makes a horror film good, that's more for dramas, it's the way it builds up and shocks the audience and what methods they use to do that e.g. terrifying sound, pauses, graphic images etc..

but still it's better not to be able to tell how it'll end.

    Pointless post ^

But you're right Jobus. See, to me with Saw it's hard to GUESS the twist before it comes together

shut up, ur post is pointless, but i agree to the movie u chose, Saw is a movies that leaves u in no win situation. For example he do things like, u have 5 minutes to find the key to the lock in a room filled wit keys and they once u find the key to the door or whatever there is a death trap on the other side, so movies such as that one is/will always be a great suspense movie.
