Hmmm...I'd do some google research to find exactly what you're looking for, but unless you're willing to spend some serious cheese, it won't turn out like you want. Freeware doesn't do as good of a job as some expensive shit would, maybe Opey has something for you...I don't know a whole lot about this subject, but what i do know is that freeware doesn't process the vocal right compared to some equipment that costs some $$$...
Soprry, i'm hammered...

i mean quality is a must, but not my biggest concern.

u cant just do that with any song yo...all depends on how its recorded....
some songs u can, some songs u cant.....most of the time, only half the voice will go away, or beat, or whatever your tryin to take out...
if u cant with a sertain song u might wanna sample, u can always try to EQ certain shit out...or use any effects for what ya tryin to do that u can to make what u want stand out more, or what u dont want quieter...
with CoolEdit, you do it here:
in the wave editor, go to effects>amplitude>channel mixer...theres a preset for it...
theres better shit to do it though....adobe audition has an effect cooledit dont...shits called Channel Extractor...works a lot better....does more to it...
yea i just seen how to in Cool Edit
so thats not what im tryin to do...
but im tryin to do is get the vocals from a certain song and mix them with my song
so how can i get that done. my homeboy did it with FL i think, where he got the bg music as low as he could so the vocals will stand out more.
but yea anyone know of how to?

download the acapella of the song you want the vocals from
there is nothing that can seperate a vocal from a instrumental once its mixed together
Welcome to reality.
its an old Queen song.
i just want the bg music to be lower than the vocals. can it be done? if yes, then is there a guide or somethin you can point me to? i searched google and got shit, so you know of any other places?

Kris's method works best to be honest with you.
But..

I got a buddy named drop dead Fred, He ain't really real, he my imaginary friend,
My mama said that I shoulden't talk to him, Cause I look crazy when I start to fuck with him..
I think he is wanting to cut the beat out so he can use the vocals.
Try using the EQ. Cut the highs and lows. This won't get rid of the beat but it'll get rid of the bass, kicks and some of the hats depending on the beat. You'll have to mess with it some but that is what I use when mixing in vocals from other songs.

Just take Kris's advice and download the acapella from online.

there probably isnt a acapella if its a old Queen song.
you may be shit outta luck.
what exactly are you trying to do tho? sample the vocals for a beat?
Welcome to reality.
I think he's going to try to fit in a Queen verse or somthing. That's what most of them want to do. I doubt he wants to use it as a sample.
