well.. if u want my opinion.. save your money and dont buy a rode nt1a, because im assuming you have a noisy room like i did. In order to get a good sound out of it you have to have a quiet room, with treatment. So i suggest u get a good dynamic mic, and spend the extra 100 on a better preamp.
Now, maybe someone can reccomend him a good dynamic mic and a $200 preamp?
Peace

1. Dynamic microphones don't require pre-amps. What's the point of buying a better quality pre-amp for a Dynamic microphone?
2. If you've got $200 to spend, then you shoulden't be spending any part of it on a dynamic microphone, period.
3. Dynamic microphones are garbage. There are not built for professional recording.

He said he wants a decent set up.. not a professional one.Originally Posted by I Am..

i made the mistake and bought a nt1a, and tried using it with no foam in a wide open room.. it was not happening.. so i had to go spend an extra $200 to buy foam and turn my closet into a booth to get a half way decent sound.
Dynamics are better for noisy untreated rooms. Theres no doubt in my mind.
Wtf! There are so many ways to treat fucking walls easily. You don't need $200 to treat a wall. Heavy blankets will do just fucking fine. I mean shit, you can soundproof a room with egg cartons. Even if you do deicde to use foam, you don't have to use it every-fucking-where..just where it's needed.
Dynamic microphones are NOT made for recording, just stfu. All microphones pick up sounds to a certain extent, it's a problem with ALL condenser microphones, are you saying everybody who wants to start a home studio should get a Dynamic microphone because condenser microphones pick up unwanted sound?
And again, why are you recommending a pre-amp for a DYNAMIC MICROPHONE.

ok, i can see where ur comin from about the walls being treated with blankets.. but still, a dynamic mic will work better. I'm STILL trying to get my rode to sound good. You gotta know how to eq properly, and have proper treatment. Dude is just starting out, and he dont got a lot of money.. get a dag gon Shure dynamic mic.. sound is fucking sound. i didnt mean to say preamp in my previous post. What i meant to say was a better interface than the 0404 for around $200. Also, the hum from the computer, and outside noise is gonna be a big factor with a condenser mic.
OR..
Crook, what you can do is take that $500 and go to a professional studio.. save yourself the headache and let someone else do the dirty work. With studio's around my way, u can get around 10-15 hours of recording time with 500.
Memorize ur lyrics to save time, and have all your beats ready before u go.
to isolate the computer use a stiraphone box to cove ther CPU it works
as for the rode
I have it it sounds aswome if you cant eq then learn or dont do it at all
for the guy posted take I Am advice
yeah take i ams advice.. if u wanna waste your money.
sound is sound.

btw i mix dope check my songs i did that wit a radio shak mic
adversary, you're dead wrong. i record in an untreated closet with a rode nt1a. i get NO background noise. and i hardly have to EQ at all with that mic.
