no there is a right way. there might not be a wrong way but there is definitely a right way to achieve each effect and to utilize each recording technique. To make a chorus the best way is to record 3 takes. pan one hard right and one hard left. turn them all the way down. get the one that is center mixed the way you want it. put all the effects in a bus. route all 3 tracks to the same bus. make sure u just mix the one take like its a regular verse with no different effect that u would apply any other time. after its mixed select both other tracks and raise the volumes together until u get the chorus effect that you're looking for. if you want the chorus to be thinner then pan the right and left tracks more center. always make sure that the left and right tracks stay exactly the opposite pan from each other... if the left is panned 50% left then the right must be panned 50% right. after you find the right amount of chorus you can tweak your mix a little as needed but it should be extremely close to the right mix.
