The world looks good until you have to reside there
But it's like Mama used to say to me Life is just not fair
Sometimes noone cares, but Momma always does
Even through all the rough times Momma still showed me love
But then again on the other hand, she was in love with another man
She wasn't the only one because the man had a loving fam
He wasn't just a man he was also a father, but more of a soilder
In the military 30 years with patches sewed on his shoulder
He was a roller and he rolled when the Gov asked him too
Left home leavin' alone a Mother and younger Two
But what could he do? He owed the government his service
And his wife owed it to him to hold fort, support and give him courage
But even his wife was nervous, she can't imagine his fate
Going overseas to fight a war he doesn't support but hates
It's too late, to pull back, so she's gotta stay strong
She refrains from showing emotion 'cuz she's gotta move on
The days get too long and the nights become shorter
She stays up late watching the broadcast from news reporters
Hearing the area where he lives is constantly bombed by mortars
Whenever she can she either calls or sends him a message
'Cuz she constantly worries of him in the surrounding wreckage
His deployments a blessin' and a curse 'cuz she gets more time for the kids
They both drive her insane, she's on the brink of blowin' her lid
She might flip but then he calls and she's solely focused on him
But as soon as he hangs up she's back to flippin' again...
She's workin' two jobs to support our Daddy in his abscnece
Hopin' he comes home safe after survivin' all the madness
It's tragic but yo it happens, although she bears it with a smile
Reminiscing on old days, hoping she seems him in a while
She smiles the kids smile, though they know not what for
For the first time in FOUR months thier Mothers opened her door
She's tried to before, but she couldn't cope with the pain
And she almost turned to drugs, like H, Meth, and Cocaine
But now she looks pretty sane as she's starin out into space
And a tear falls from her lash as her eyes roll into place
She smiles as more water continues to pour down her face
This is the day, the exact day, she's strived so hard to reach
The day that daddy came home and he and his fam finally meet...

(THE STREET VERSION)


there was this guy,not old,had a wife and 3 kids
he was a gangbanger,couldn't get out of that shit
his wife always used to stay,"when are you gonna get your life straight"
cuz he was always in jail,and when out,get in trouble everyday
didn't care bout nobody,except for his wifey and his siblings
so he was always out on the streets,selling drugs and doing killings
and then it started giving his wife nightmares,she didn't know what to do
cuz something really bad could happen,so she had to get it through
to her husbands head,that everythings getting dangerous
so he grab the stainless,told her not to be angry
he walked out the front door,right back on the block
chillin with the gang members,and a sack full of rocks
and then his wife cried,you saw the fear in her eyes
cuz she didn't want nothin to happen,didn't want to lose another life
tried to keep her husband off the streets,but he said he was a soldier
even though the cops fuck with him,and he always has them boulders
has 12 killings on his belt,none of them were ever solved
he though he didn't have nothing to worry about,cuz he didn't have no problems
but then one day it was different,cuz some of his boys were missing
so he knew something was going on,so he had to stand his position
cuz he didn't know what to do,didn't know what was going on
so he ask his wife for advice,and she had just put him down
cuz she was tired of all the pain,he went out the door back ont the streets
didn't know whats gonna happen,he had to hold his heat
then 3 hours later,his wife has started worrying
cuz he hasn't come home,so the tears starting absorbing
she knew somethin has happen,cuz she saw the blue and red lights
so she went outside,and saw it was a gun fight
she started walking towards the scene,started shaking up with fright
cuz she wanted a closer look,cuz she hasn't seen her husband
and then she sees his body there,started breaking down in fractions
cuz her husband was dead,got shot in a gun fight
so she want to know who did it,cuz she has her own rights
so it lives in her memory,that her close ones are dead
so she will never stop sheading tears,unless shes the one in the med
