    2. What is the purpose of a A/D/A convertor, and how can it benefit even the smallest studios?

Well, to understand the emencity of an A/D/A converter you must be finely trained in the arts of intracate illness.

    3. What am I talking about when i say "Clock Rates"?

You are talking about the microwave timer waiting for it to go off.

    4. What is the technical difference between a Condenser microphone, and a Dynamic Microphone?

Condenser mics are a large diaphram shit, so basically Condenser > Dyno

    5. Name 4 Polar Patterns

Fake up north, Dirrty Souf, West Coast killas, East Coast foos

    6. When recording vocals for hip hop music, is it better to record in Mono or Stereo? and why?

Mono for verses and Stereo for Chorus effects, why? Just because it is.

    7. What is the highest bit-depth used in conventional mastering studios today?

    24 bit/96khz

    8. Why do engineers commonly use 2 sets of nearfield monitors when mixing a track?

It is always good to compare and contrast to get the best medium for a "real life bumpin situation" Or some monitors are better hi end, whereas others are better low end ect.

    9. Why is it not always good to mix in a soundproof room?

It might make you sound a bit muddy?

    10. What is a Vocoder, and why was it originally created?

Vocoder is God, and it was created to make certain instruments
to sound like a voice. It is very handy for long string noted melodies.

    11. What are "HotKeys"? and what is the HotKey for "play" in most digital DAWs.

Hoy Keys is when a textcee freestyles.

    12. What is a "Synthesizer"?

    A synthized instrument.

    13. What determines the "sound quality" within a "soundcard"?

Wtf? The specifications foo, or i guess what bit-depth they
can take in and put out.

    14. How does the "Attack", and "Release" on a compressor operate?

Attack makes the compression act at a certain point, release makes
the compression release over an amount of time.

    15. What is the Frequency Range of the human ear?

    Fuck if i know

    16. If something is "industry standard", does that in turn make it the best item on the market? explain.

No, it just makes it what everyone who is on the bandwaggon uses, the "best" is always a variable once you get up to equipment in the 3204903493049$ it's really a matter of opinion and user friendlylessness.

    17. Why is our age of music being called "The Compression Age"?

Because we compress the shit out of everything, thats how we get
those Bangin drums that make people cream.

    18. Why does 2 inch tape have noise on it?

    2 inches is small yo.

    19. Why are mp3's blamed for destroying the standard of what "sounds good"?

Mp3s are compressed music files, sometimes the compression can lower the
    quality of a sound.

    20. What's the difference between a Valve microphone preamp, and a Vacuum tube microphone preamp?

    The dopeosity.

about 20 hz to 20,000 hz

    16. If something is "industry standard", does that in turn make it the best item on the market? explain.

no, because if most producers use a certain keyboard, because they may think it sounds the best, it will be the industry standard, but it may not conatin the best sounds... but mostly yes, becuase they normally work with the best equaiptment, but new equiptment comes out all the time... so

    17. Why is our age of music being called "The Compression Age"?
we compress all of our music... example... mp3's

    3. What am I talking about when i say "Clock Rates"?

    Tape Speed

    4. What is the technical difference between a Condenser microphone, and a Dynamic Microphone?

Condensor mics use electrostatic principles rather than the electromagnetic principles used by dynamic and ribbon mics.

    9. Why is it not always good to mix in a soundproof room?

Acoustics.... the environment in which a sound is generated has a large effect on the way the ear interpres sound. As a result, there are two major methods of recording. The first considersthe environment to be a part of the sound of the instrument, while the second tries to eliminate the effects of the environment as much as possible.

    15. What is the Frequency Range of the human ear?

A sound source produces sound waves by alternately compressing and rareying the air between it and the listener. The compression causes an increase of pressure above the normal atmospheric pressure on the ear corresponding to the positive section of the waveform. The rarefaction causes a decrease of pressure below the normal atmospheric pressure on the ear corresponding to the negative section of the waveforms. The ear responds to these variations in pressure by producing the sensation of hearing. The frequecny of the wave reaching the ear determines the pitch the listener hears.

    16. If something is "industry standard", does that in turn make it the best item on the market? explain.

fuck no! standard is synonomous with satifactory or medeokre... it is the mass marketed stuff that the average person can afford.

    19. Why are mp3's blamed for destroying the standard of what "sounds good"?

    2 words... HISS REDUCTION!

    20. What's the difference between a Valve microphone preamp, and a Vacuum tube microphone preamp?

    shite

    3. What am I talking about when i say "Clock Rates"?

    meh

    4. What is the technical difference between a Condenser microphone, and a Dynamic Microphone?

Condenser has is the large diafram mics with higher frequincy range lower self noise and better at picking up the correct noises

    5. Name 4 Polar Patterns

    cardioid hyper-cardioid omni-directional figure of 8

    6. When recording vocals for hip hop music, is it better to record in Mono or Stereo? and why?

For verse mono because you want people to equally hear your voice in r/l ears and for chorus stero if you whant to rap in one ear and talk in the other and so forth

    7. What is the highest bit-depth used in conventional mastering studios today?

    I think 24/96

    8. Why do engineers commonly use 2 sets of nearfield monitors when mixing a track?

One set would probably emphasize on the lower end freqiuncies with their imperfections and sound and one would focus on high end frequincies

    9. Why is it not always good to mix in a soundproof room?

You'll hear the music your mixing different than a normal person would giving the final mixdown a weird sound that would be right in the room but not in a normal room.

    10. What is a Vocoder, and why was it originally created?

I don't know, isn't that the thing that sends stuff as an audio signal rather than it being converted to data and then converted back. Created for less latency

    11. What are "HotKeys"? and what is the HotKey for "play" in most digital DAWs.

Hotkeys are buttons that you can press on the keyboard so you don't have to move you mouse and click on something for everything you do.

    Space

    12. What is a "Synthesizer"?

Bit depth, latency and other specs

    14. How does the "Attack", and "Release" on a compressor operate?

    15. What is the Frequency Range of the human ear?

    20hz-20khz

Although Some people can hear 18hz, I think

    16. If something is "industry standard", does that in turn make it the best item on the market? explain.

No. Industry standard means big names use other big names. Most peolpe prefer other programs. All it is is a widely used peice of equipment in the music industry, not necessarily the best.

    17. Why is our age of music being called "The Compression Age"?

Everything is compressed like all hell and people are thinking thats what sound is supposed to be like

    18. Why does 2 inch tape have noise on it?

    because it wants to

    19. Why are mp3's blamed for destroying the standard of what "sounds good"?

They're compressed for space instead of being a raw unfudged with file.

    20. What's the difference between a Valve microphone preamp, and a Vacuum tube microphone preamp?

Vacuum tube is for warmth and vavle is for something else

This thing is actually very technical and pretty tough but I should be able to answer at least half lol.

    1. Name what the following acronyms stand for:

    DBu -
    WDM -
    ASIO -
I/O - In and Out (I believe.. talking about the hook ups or a router)
    SPDIF -
    KHZ - Kigaherts or Killaherts
RCA - Radio Converted Audio (Or something like that.. Radio waves into useable audio.)
    A/D -
    D/A -
    MIDI -
    MOTU -
    SPL -
    DAW -

    2. What is the purpose of a A/D/A convertor, and how can it benefit even the smallest studios?

    3. What am I talking about when i say "Clock Rates"?

    4. What is the technical difference between a Condenser microphone, and a Dynamic Microphone?
A Condenser mic is a) more expenseive b) needs a pre-amp c) gets a wider range of sound. Meaning that it can pick up a lot of background noises. Condenser is a studio mic while Dynamic is a performance mic.

    5. Name 4 Polar Patterns

    6. When recording vocals for hip hop music, is it better to record in Mono or Stereo? and why?
Stereo. No clue. That's what I've always used or been told.

    7. What is the highest bit-depth used in conventional mastering studios today?

    8. Why do engineers commonly use 2 sets of nearfield monitors when mixing a track?

    9. Why is it not always good to mix in a soundproof room?
You get no real basis for the music aka outside interfences of any kind.

    10. What is a Vocoder, and why was it originally created?

    11. What are "HotKeys"? and what is the HotKey for "play" in most digital DAWs.
Hotkeys are buttons pressed for shortcuts. i.e. 'p' is play.

    12. What is a "Synthesizer"?

    13. What determines the "sound quality" within a "soundcard"?

    14. How does the "Attack", and "Release" on a compressor operate?

    15. What is the Frequency Range of the human ear?

    16. If something is "industry standard", does that in turn make it the best item on the market? explain.
No. It is the standard meaning it is average to the industy. it is neither the best nor worst.

    17. Why is our age of music being called "The Compression Age"?

    18. Why does 2 inch tape have noise on it?

    19. Why are mp3's blamed for destroying the standard of what "sounds good"?

    20. What's the difference between a Valve microphone preamp, and a Vacuum tube microphone preamp?

Well I doubt I even got half there.. oh well lol.

    just 4 fun
did all this ish in microsoft
i did look up like 3-5 questions tho to be honest

    1. Name what the following acronyms stand for:

DBu – decibel units(deals with ohms lining)
    WDM –wavelength division multiplexing
    ASIO –audio stream input output
    I/O –input/output
SPDIF – sony Phillips digital interface input
    KHZ - kilohertz
RCA – radio corporation of america
    A/D –analog to digital
    D/A – digital to analog
    MIDI –musical instrument digital interface
    MOTU –mark of the unicorn
    SPL – sound pressure level
    DAW –digital audio workshop(station)

    2. What is the purpose of a A/D/A convertor, and how can it benefit even the smallest studios?

To bring better quality,it gives all kinds of requirement to merge sounds
Soundcards play a good deal too

    3. What am I talking about when i say "Clock Rates"?
Timing pulses, settings and synchronization, measured in mHZ

    4. What is the technical difference between a Condenser microphone, and a Dynamic Microphone?
    Condenser sounds better, better stand
    Dynamic is blah
    Condenser=alcatrakz
    Dyanamic=sdizzle

    5. Name 4 Polar Patterns
    Cardoid.omni,hyper cardiod.supercardioid

    6. When recording vocals for hip hop music, is it better to record in Mono or Stereo? and why? Mono, better quality

    7. What is the highest bit-depth used in conventional mastering studios today?
    16,”24”,32,64,128? def 24

    8. Why do engineers commonly use 2 sets of nearfield monitors when mixing a track?-vocals and equalizing while mixing? More power, pedal boards

    9. Why is it not always good to mix in a soundproof room?
    Soundproof delays vocals and stuff

    10. What is a Vocoder, and why was it originally created?
An audio processor which captures audio signals, created to make or synthesize speech

    11. What are "HotKeys"? and what is the HotKey for "play" in most digital DAWs.
    Shortcut buttons,control,alt enter

    12. What is a "Synthesizer"?
electronical music instrument, creates electric signals, but u can make music with this

    13. What determines the "sound quality" within a "soundcard"?
    sound speakers,convertors, i/o etc

    14. How does the "Attack", and "Release" on a compressor operate?

to set the response characteristics of the compressor to minimise the distortion on low frequency levels

    15. What is the Frequency Range of the human ear?
    20hz to 20 khz

    16. If something is "industry standard", does that in turn make it the best item on the market? explain.
No, itz not set by the peoples standards

    17. Why is our age of music being called "The Compression Age"?
we compress most of our music through streaming and mp3s…we don’t use music like back in the day and mp3 lower sound quality

    18. Why does 2 inch tape have noise on it?
low noise properties, wider dynamic range, reasonable frequency

    19. Why are mp3's blamed for destroying the standard of what "sounds good"?

mp3s compress the format of the quality, the audio file get scrunched up, becuz mp2 compress at different rates,so the more they are scrunched the worse they sound.

    20. What's the difference between a Valve microphone preamp, and a Vacuum tube microphone preamp?

Vacuum sucks out the stuff and makes it sound better lol ?
i think the vacuum filters out and valve is the opposite

    1. Name what the following acronyms stand for:

    DBu - decibel units
WDM - windows digital media<<prolly wrong
ASIO - Acting Stupid In Otherways<<idont know
    I/O -in/ out
SPDIF - Sony's Pure Digital InterFerence?<<i dont know
    KHZ - kilohertz

    MIDI -Medium In Doing It???
    MOTU - MOTown Underground???
    SPL - SPit Lyrics??
    DAW -Digital Audio Wackness??

    2. What is the purpose of a A/D/A convertor, and how can it benefit even the smallest studios?

u can turn audio shit into digital shit and back again. the digital stuff is cheaper

    3. What am I talking about when i say "Clock Rates"?

how fast your watch is?(jk) something to do with timing.

    4. What is the technical difference between a Condenser microphone, and a Dynamic Microphone?

condenser mic reduces...popping noises? , dynamic improves the other sounds.

    5. Name 4 Polar Patterns

north pole, south pole, pole dancers, maypole syrup (sp)

    6. When recording vocals for hip hop music, is it better to record in Mono or Stereo? and why?

mono. only half the memory space is used up and the stereo sound on vocals isn't really necessary.

    7. What is the highest bit-depth used in conventional mastering studios today?

very high?? no idea maybe 128 or 64 or 32 or something

    8. Why do engineers commonly use 2 sets of nearfield monitors when mixing a track?

to see if they got the stereo sounds right??

    9. Why is it not always good to mix in a soundproof room?

because their will be no sound (its soundproof) so you cant hear anything?
or because you hate your meighbours and want to wake them up 5:30 in the morning with you instrumentals you made played full volume/blast

    10. What is a Vocoder, and why was it originally created?

    vocal decoder, erm...

    11. What are "HotKeys"? and what is the HotKey for "play" in most digital DAWs.

no idea. the hotkeys stuff on my comp is fucked.

    12. What is a "Synthesizer"?

a thing that makes synth beats. the number of wavelength and troughs and shit can be modified to give some dope sound. Or a shitty sound.

    13. What determines the "sound quality" within a "soundcard"?

how good it is at recording, how dope you are at recording.(my soundcard is currently broken)

    14. How does the "Attack", and "Release" on a compressor operate?

    attack ? what?

    15. What is the Frequency Range of the human ear?

    20hz to 20,000hz (20khz)

    16. If something is "industry standard", does that in turn make it the best item on the market? explain.

no. the music industry has currently too much shit music being sold. people stick the words 'industry standard' on it 'coz they no there's no other way it can sell. Also, it is industry standard, not standard stuff to people who make real dope recordings. But ignoramuses (most people) dont think like that, so it sells better.

    17. Why is our age of music being called "The Compression Age"?

coz we compress everything to make it sound perfecter. you can change the sound of something completely by compressing the fuck out of it.

    18. Why does 2 inch tape have noise on it?

because thats what a tape is made for...SOUND.

    19. Why are mp3's blamed for destroying the standard of what "sounds good"?

this digital to analogue shit. files are recording:They lose quality. the are saved on a computer:They lose more quality. they are converted to a completely different type of file. they lose a fuckload of quality. then they go on the internet, get dowloaded for free, lose quality again blah blah blah.

    20. What's the difference between a Valve microphone preamp, and a Vacuum tube microphone preamp?

vacuum takes the air out, so sound cant go thruough the vacuumed bits. valve has the opposite effect.
