Write to the beat you're gonna record on, obviously. Or write then listen to the ebat and edit your verse. Text write to a beat if it helps your flow or no beat if it helps you that way. I guess this is just someones personal preference, theres no right/wrong way.

I need to write in silence..cause I find when I write to a beat..trying to keep my typing up with the flow doesn't work..so it always throws me off..and it comes off not flowing..

I usually just think of lyrics in my head to an imaginary beat, but if there's something with a a beat to it like a clinking gas pump it helps a lot a more. Then if I come up with a cool line or idea I try to find a beat that'll go with it and then write to the beat.
But honestly the biggest things that ever helped me write lyrics was hooked-on-phonics and my 75 cents to buy a pen.

i run a playlist of about 4-5 similar instrumentals... each gives me a new look on the verse im writing... but this way im not boxed in... i can do what i want... alot of times i dont have music at all though...

I usually write when im stressed, because thats when you can show all of your emotions well. I listen through beats until one gets my attention for that moment, and then I write to it... Thats me, and I only write at night, I hate the sun light...
It ruins the mood for me...
