there was something about her - an element that made her shine
an attraction
a passion
or the sparkle that glazed her eyes
she was the emblem of perfection - a heart made of nothing but gold
the sweet princess of innocence, a girl who does what she’s told…
…so if i want to be honest about her - i’d say that she’s blessed
as she’s one of the few who are popular cause of the brains in their head
a straight “A” student with a goal to make people feel better
a girl who’s always hopping through the smoke rings of peer pressure
and with her future in mind
she stays chasing her singing career
with an angel’s voice that makes you smile when she sings in your ear
her dreams are getting near - so she now spends her days…
…by the mailbox, waiting for a reply to the letter she sent away
when it eventually came -
her hand grasped the cross on her necklace
while spiralling through her mind were thoughts of “you’ve been rejected”
and as her neck twitched - she became flustered with tension
then she finally tore open the envelope to see words of acceptance:
“your tryout is Thursday at 9 p.m., tina, and i must mention
that you can contact us with any difficulties or questions
i look forward to hearing you” and there was nothing Tina wanted more
cause this was the big opportunity she’d been waiting for
…it was a big success -
her singing career was so close she could taste it
cause she’ll never forget that feeling when she saw the smiles on their faces
and as soon as they said,
“to be honest, there’s no one more deserving”
she leapt with joy as she knew that her career would be a sure thing
so she left the music hall with a big smile and a skip in her step
as she allowed the thoughts of fame and stardom to sink in her head
but it was now past 11:30 p.m. and the streets were dark
whilst the cold hand of the night had began to squeeze her heart
something rustled behind her and this noise struck her nerves
but it was so dark that she could barely see two feet in front of her
twigs snapped, and she could hear a crackle of stones to her left
and when she squinted -
she could see a shadow standing alone by a fence
it was motionless and silent - similar to the unsteady evening
yet all she could make out was the pacing chest of his heavy breathing
inhale – exhale - then another noise cracked from over her shoulder
so she turned and tried to run - but the heavy breathing got closer and closer
suddenly, his hand gripped her shoulder and tried to force her down
then his other hand grabbed her collar bone and she fell to the ground
she tried to struggle, but he pinned her arms, and…
…tina couldn’t escape -
yet she could feel him strip off her garments
then she felt a sharp pain as her throat jumped to try and scream
but his sweaty hands smothered her
and she felt something inside her jeans
a tear dripped from her eye’s crevice upon her rosy cheeks
and she’d never felt so alone ‘til she heard her own lonely screams
it all happened so fast, she tried to fight back with all her might
but then everything was quiet and the heavy panting disappeared in the night
and nine months later
in a hospital bed - she birthed a beautiful child
it was a handsome boy, who quickly developed her musical style
but Tina had long quit her singing career,
that dream was now a fallacy
as she knew she’d have to deal with her son’s inquisitive personality
so if he asked “where’s dada?”, tina would say he’s on vacation
cause how in the hell could she tell her son that his dad was a rapist?
i guess everyone keeps their own secrets in the shadows.
