Need help - Mic work work

ALright, Ive went through two mics so far.
I plugged inthe mic, made sure it was connected and ish. Ive got cool edit loaded, but for some reason i cannot hear shit.. i cant get the mic to work at all. i went through two brand new mics.

My sound card is connected to the mother board, its a new computer, and its running windows 98.... Any Ideas?

Go to sound levels unmute the mic, make sure the mics in the line in socket Then make sure your recording properly in cool edit

LoL that was the first thing i did BEFORE i tryed using the mic..

My speakers work to.. But icant get the mic to.. any other ideas?

is this a CONDENSER mic you're using???

b/c if it is YOU need 48v phantom power more than likely, and that will be provided by a pre-amp...

try reinstallin windows maybe you have a prob with your sound card.

acctually i know wahts wrong i had the same prob. go to the icon at the bottom right of the screen to get into your sound options. then go to options in the menu. then click on properties, then change the option to recordin and make sure that the option is ticked on streo . if that dont work i dont know!!

Lmao how do i know is its a condenser mic?

It just says omnidirectional dynamic microphone (great for your PA or recording systmes) ive got an attachment hooked on the back of it to plugg right into the soundcard. So im not really sure if its a condenser mic or not. It doesnt say anything of the sort. And im just figuring my soundcar is my recording system.


Also, can you hook up Preamps to your Soundcard? or do the soundcords NEED to be comatible?
