Electronic Music :)
I'm just wondering...although I'm sure I can anticipate what the responses are going to be...is anyone on this forum interested in electronic music? Whether it be ambient, trance, hell even house music...
just no Tiesto please

Re: Electronic Music :)
I listen to most types of music, I used to listen to electronic music a little but not so much lately. Kernkraft was my favourite artist I guess. :/ lol

Re: Electronic Music :)
Right on man
@quickdraw I don't think I've ever heard of that but I'll definitely look into it @baron I dig on some dub too bro, but a lot of it seems kinda cliche to me. There's definitely some out there I can get down to though. I'm really into Psy Trance though, it's just amazing all the different sounds the artists can bring together to create something so beautiful. The real thing I like though is going to the actual psy parties because the DJs aren't just playing one song, then the next song, then the next one, like radio DJs they're actually mixing these different tracks together and when it comes out right...well I can't compare it to anything but it's one hell of a journey inside of yourself. Just being on the dancefloor groovin however I feel, without the constrictions of worrying about how I'm dancing or anything like that...you just feel like you're one with everyone else out there. I love going to parties in the woods and just dancing the weekend away, it makes me feel whole with the earth. I guess the psychedelics kinda help that....but they definitely aren't necessary, just an added perk I suppose. |

Re: Electronic Music :)
Erm I don't really feel that I'm enough of an expert in the subject to even attempt enlightenment...however, if you experienced a party(I like to use that term because rave has negative connotation these days), you just might see what I mean. It is definitely a form of music, and it takes very intelligent people to create it. You have to be on point with every note, because it runs off of a system of BPMs, so when you are DJing you have to match the BPMs so it doesn't sound completely horrible when you throw down.

Re: Electronic Music :)
I was an IDM/Breakcore producer long before I started getting serious about Hip Hop, and a Prog Metal/Grindcore guitarist before that... and honestly I take the same approach to all styles when making music.
As far as electronic music goes, my favorites are: -Aphex Twin -Bjork -Venetian Snares -A.M. Architect -Boards of Canada -Oxygenfad (self-produced Canadian Breakcore artist, I envy this guy) Really though, just like any music genre, or any form of art for that matter, you have to sift through the oceans of average and conventional to find the real gems. I'm really into cLOUDDEAD and anything Doseone is a part of lately, it's like the "post-rock" of hip hop, an experimental reflection on the mainstream. |

Re: Electronic Music :)
Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, and Bjork are pretty amazing, but I don't think I've heard anything from the other artists.
My main thing in the realm of Psy Trance is dark psy though...and there's an insane amount of artists from Isreal and Russia, as well as other countries all over. I really don't like a lot of the big name producers though because their styles all seem to be predominantly generic, and lacking in the certain OOMPH that some other artists deliver. An amazing group which is commonly placed in the genre of Psybient is Schpongle. They've been doing their thing for quite some time now, and continue to produce amazing psychedelic ambient grooves. If I had to recommend and album I'd definitely say my favorite is Nothing Lasts...but Nothing is Lost. |

Re: Electronic Music :)
yeah i dig it. lately a bit of dubstep and kinda shit like that, but i'm not really much of an expert, it's not my main thing, just stuff i 'obtain' online. definitely feel aphex twin though 'selected ambient works' 1 + 2 have gotten me through so many essay writing sessions... the avalanches' 'since i left you' is one of my all time faves too - incredible.

Re: Electronic Music :)
Yea I dig on some dub for sure. It's fun to go to a party and groove all night to some badass reggae dub. Most parties I've been to had at least two stages...the hardcore psy stage, and the downtemp stage. Downtemp is where you'll find the dubstep and ambient grooves...but at the hardcore stage that's where the pumpin 130+bpm shit goes down.
I'm definitely not an expert, but that doesn't stop me from loving the fuck out of it. It's just perfect to dance to for me because I can dance however the hell I want...kinda like when I'm at a metal show. If I'm in a club environment there's always pressure to mimic others in a way...just because that's the way the culture seems to be...but some crazy electro makes me feel so free.
