Run! Run! The Taliban are coming!!!
Pakistani Taliban vows attack on D.C. that will 'amaze'
By ISHTIAQ MAHSUD Associated Press
March 31, 2009, 10:18AM
DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan — The commander of the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility today for a deadly assault on a Pakistani police academy and said the group was planning a terrorist attack on the White House that would "amaze" the world.
Baitullah Mehsud, who has a $5 million bounty on his head from the U.S., said Monday's attack outside the eastern city of Lahore was in retaliation for U.S. missile strikes against militants along the Afghan border.
"Soon we will launch an attack in Washington that will amaze everyone in the world," Mehsud told The Associated Press by phone. He provided no details.
Mehsud identified the White House as one of the targets in an interview with local Dewa Radio, a copy of which was obtained by the AP.
The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad declined to comment on the threat.
Mehsud and other Pakistani Taliban militants are believed to be based in the country's lawless areas near the border with Afghanistan, where they have stepped up their attacks throughout Pakistan.
The Taliban leader also claimed responsibility for a suicide car bombing that killed four soldiers Monday in Bannu district and a suicide attack targeting a police station in Islamabad last week that killed one officer.
Such attacks pose a major test for the weak, year-old civilian administration of Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari that has been gripped with political turmoil in recent weeks.
Interior Ministry spokesman Raashid Bashir Mazari said Tuesday an investigation was under way into the attack on the police academy in Lahore but it was too early to respond to Mehsud's claim.
However, Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik said Monday that authorities had information linking the attack to Mehsud. He said at least one of the attackers arrived in Lahore about 15 days ago from Mehsud's stronghold of South Waziristan near the border with Pakistan and rented a house.
The gunmen who attacked the police academy killed seven police and two civilians, holding security forces at bay for about eight hours before being overpowered by Pakistani commandos. Some of the attackers wore police uniforms, and they took hostages and tossed grenades during the assault.
Earlier Tuesday, a spokesman from a little-known militant group linked to the Pakistani Taliban also claimed credit for the attack and a similar ambush-style attack against the Sri Lankan cricket team earlier this month in Lahore. It was not immediately possible to reconcile the two claims.
Omar Farooq, who said he is the spokesman for Fedayeen al-Islam, said the group would carry out more attacks unless Pakistani troops withdraw from tribal areas near the Afghan border and the U.S. stops its drone strikes. The group previously said it was behind the deadly September bombing of the Marriott hotel in Islamabad that killed 54 people.
Mehsud declined to comment on Fedayeen al-Islam's claim that it carried out the attack or to say whether the group is linked to his own.
"At this time, I will not give any detail," Mehsud said.
The Pakistani Taliban leader also said he was not deterred by the U.S. bounty on his head.
"I wish to die and embrace martyrdom," he said.
The AP has spoken to Mehsud several times in the past and recognized his voice, and a request for an interview with Mehsud was submitted through his aide. The militant leader also granted phone interviews to other media organizations.
The Pakistani Taliban has links with al-Qaida and Afghan Taliban militants who have launched attacks against U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan from a base in the border region between the two countries.
Pakistan faces tremendous U.S. pressure to eradicate militants from its soil and has launched several military operations in the Afghan border region.
The U.S. has stepped up drone attacks against militants in the area, causing tension with Pakistani officials who protest they are a violation of the country's sovereignty and kill innocent civilians.
Monday's highly coordinated attack highlighted that militants in the country pose a threat far outside the border region. It prompted Malik, Pakistan's top civilian security official, to say that militant groups were "destabilizing the country."
The gunmen killed six police during the assault, and one died late Monday from his injuries, said Lahore's commissioner, Major Azam Khan. He said Tuesday that the initial investigation revealed that two civilians were also shot and killed, but he did not reveal their identities.
More than 90 officers were wounded in the assault, according to officials.
After gunmen stormed the academy, masses of security forces surrounded the compound, exchanging fire in televised scenes reminiscent of the militant siege in the Indian city of Mumbai in November and the attack on Sri Lanka's cricket team.
A senior Lahore police investigator, Zulfikar Hameed, told the AP that three of the attackers blew themselves up when commandos retook the police academy to avoid arrest and one other was shot by security forces.
Hameed said it was difficult to say precisely how many militants carried out the attack and some may have escaped during the operation.
A senior military official said security forces arrested three of the attackers, including one who was trying to throw a hand grenade at a helicopter. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
Wasim Ahmad Sial, a senior Lahore police official, said authorities have obtained fingerprints of the attackers who blew themselves up and have determined one of their identities. He did not provide further details.
Punjab police chief, Khawaja Khalid Farooq, told reporters Tuesday that a suspected militant who was captured at the scene of the attack had provided "genuine and actual leads that are beneficial for interrogation."
He said about 50 other people in Lahore were detained overnight for questioning.
Associated Press writers Asif Shahzad and Munir Ahmad in Islamabad and Zarar Khan and Babar Dogar in Lahore contributed to this report.

Re: Run! Run! The Taliban are coming!!!
What we need to do is back completely out of the middle-east and let them kill each-other. Seriously. I heard from Bill Maher that we still have 50,000 troops in fucking Germany. I didn't check to see for myself, but either way, wtf are we doing? We just going to set up bases everywhere and "police" everyone? 'Fuck outta here.
Either kill the fucks and take complete control, like a true imperialistic nation or go the fuck home.

Re: Run! Run! The Taliban are coming!!!
And wtf happened to the good old days, when you kicked someone's ass and made there people citizens or drove them into the ocean? Wtf? Do Iraq like we did America; Kill the fuckers who don't want to get down with the team, make the rest citizens and give them two senators and some congressmen. If that's not the ultimate goal in war, that war probably isn't worth fighting. Go your ass home.

Re: Run! Run! The Taliban are coming!!!
As of March 31, 2008, U.S. Forces were stationed at more than 820 installations in at least 39 countries. Some of the largest contingents are the 142,000 military personnel in Iraq, the 56,200 in Germany, the 33,122 in Japan, 26,339 in South Korea, 31,100 in Afghanistan and approximately 9,700 each in Italy and the United Kingdom. These numbers change frequently due to the regular recall and deployment of units.
Altogether, 84,488 military personnel are located in Europe, 154 in the former Soviet Union, 70,719 in East Asia and the Pacific, 7,850 in North Africa, the Near East, and South Asia, 2,727 are in sub-Saharan Africa with 2,043 in the Western Hemisphere excepting the United States itself.
Lmao @ Europe having more then Middle East And African places...makes no sense. I mean ok the balkans...and the cauceses....but other then that the fuck?

^I Like that...I like this dumb fuck taking responsibilty of two SUICIDE attacks. lol. In my mind, you can maybe tell them to do it or persuade them, but taking responsibilty on a Suicide attack is basically stupid since the only responsibilty was the persons who's now dead.

Exactly. People talk about us not having an exit strategy for Iraq, when we've NEVER had an exist strategy for ANYTHING! Wtf? The only time we invaded then left was Dessert Storm, and I bet we still left troops in Kuwait. How long did we fight in Vietnam before we finally tucked tail? It's like this cause war has never been something where you meet and fight, then go home. War is, I'm going to kill you and take your country. Hell, that would have been ill in Iraq. We'd have tons of oil and our economy wouldn't be as in-the-dumps as it is now.

Re: Run! Run! The Taliban are coming!!!
This war is stupid because it's impossible to win. We aren't fighting an organized army that's going to retreat or give up. We're fighting random religious extremist villagers that are willing to blow THEMSELVES up to kill us.

Trust me. If the forefathers committed genocide on the indigenous people and took almost all of a continent, they can handle a few fags with homemade weapons. We just need a good ol' fashion ethnic cleansing.

Re: Run! Run! The Taliban are coming!!!
And rebuild the twin towers in Afghanistan, which will be a newer version of Las Vegas. Americans will fly there to gamble and vacation. We'll host Floyd Mayweather fights and have gay magicians do magic tricks. We'll have washed-up old musicians sing as we eat dinner. It would be great.
-
Re: Run! Run! The Taliban are coming!!!
times were different back then.
Now we have things like rules of war and the United Nations.
It was a simpler time, a better time, if you were a White Anglo Saxon Protestant anyway.
-
Re: Run! Run! The Taliban are coming!!!
lol, we are not in other countries that aren't hostile because we are policing them. Do you think those soldiers have any authority outside of the base they are on, and more than likely they have no authority on the base they are on if it isn't ours. There is specific programs set up to have troop transfer to assist in training and such situations where some places are staging and relay points. Its not JUST america, these are over half the time nato installations. None the less, yea we dont need all of those troops there, but this isnt anything new. We have had troops in other counties since way before Iraq. And its far from we are there monitoring them lmao, we dont need to be in their county to monitor what they do, or hell even police them for that matter.
