Introduction

Hey there short story writers! Surprised to see a magazine? Well I'm surprised that I'm writing one! I PM'd our very own Short Stories moderator, Chris Black yesterday, to see if he would mind the starting of a mag and he was fine with it. Now, I delved deep into the far corners of my mind, trying to figure out what to cover in this magazine, and I came up with alot of normal,"clique" ideas, which, yeah, i'm going to cover. Although, I have came up with some pretty interesting ideas for this magazine, and hopefully you all will enjoy them as much as me. On another note, there will not be a top 5 writers section, or anything like that, because honestly, there's just not a big enough variety of writers, that drop on a regular basis, to be able to cover that, and back it with reasonable statements that proove they deserve a spot. Yes, there will still be a top pieces section, so quit worrying! The mag's not that bad! Well, before we close, I believe we all owe a big thank you to Chris Black for taking his time to moderate this forum, when activity is scarce,
although it does seem to be improving lately! Alright folks, it's that time, sit back, buckle up, and enjoy the mag.

Review Of The Rules

Fist off, this forum is for short stories, essays and intellectual rants. Do not post lyric, rhyme or rhythm based pieces

1. Drop no more than one piece per day
2. Do not up your thread more than five times
3. Leave one link to a story you’ve replied to, in your thread.
4. Leave proper feedback, which entails:
More than two sentences
Mentioning strong points and weak points
Suggesting what could have made the piece better

5. Freeposts will result in a one week ban. Freeposts are:
Bullshit replies/Joke replies etc.
Paragraph long stories that you think are funny
Posting that you will reply to a story.
Any other stupid shit that I deam a freepost

If any rule is broken, your thread will be closed, no questions asked.

Hobbies: Football (Soccer),Reading, Music - Not just rap lol, I like everything. Pretty much play any sport I come across.

Favorite Movie(s): Zoolander, lmao. That shit is TOO funny. Dodgeball too. I like Gladiator, Troy and Kindom Of Heaven type movies too. Inspiring shit.

When did you start writing & why: Little over a year ago, I came across a forum called Rapworlds, started off battling there won/lost a few text battles. I then went onto another site called gotbattles, and I started writing topically, wont a lot of those ever since haha. As for why, it interested me..I don't intend to be a rapper, but I've always had a gift at writing so I decided to try hone that skill. I mean, I only started writing poetry in last seasons IE and now I'm pretty dope at it.

Favorite writer(s) (rb or famous) & why:Famous would be JK Rowling, RB shit would be Poeta, Ledge, Nath9, Laureate, Celz & Chris Black. They all have pretty unique styles and I like reading shit from any of them.

Influences/Inspirations:Any good book that I've read over the years.. the poetry of Eavan Boland <-- That shit is dope, really metaphorical. MUSIC, without music I wouldn't be able to write, it's my fuel..

3. The Black Mambas/Engivale

This was really nice and creative. You used quite a few grusome descriptions, which made for a nice scare tactic. This was powerful, and very gripping, I felt on the edge of my seat wanting more every passing second. That should tell you how excellent the story was, wether or not other enjoy it!




2. Serial Killer/Living Dead/BTK

When the dead first started to walk, a Winnebago is the first vehicle I snagged. And to my surprise…like I stated…it’s the first reason I almost died at their teeth. I made the mistake of parking to enjoy the luxuries…tv, dvd, comfortable bed…before I knew it, zombies were breaking through the vulnerable locks and windows. It took some frantic swinging of a fire axe I’d found and some quick driving the fuck away to barely escape.

Highly entertaining, dark, graphic read. It was like reading a Dean Koontz novel for the first time, in terms of morbidness. Some very tight descriptions, interesting plot, and an excellent climax. Caught my attention fast, pulled me in and wouldn't let me go until I finished reading it. Great Piece Born!




1. Limpio, Sucio/Chris Black

Poncho pounced on the man and pulled his head back, by his chin, exposing his windpipe. Poncho sliced, like Miguel taught him, and let the man go. The man’s face slapped into the floor when Poncho let go. Then Poncho kicked his knees from under him.

The man started to try and suck in air. I could see the thick blood pour from his neck, but some being sucked back in as he heaved in a deep breath. The sound made me cringe.

I doubt many will argue with my choice here. Chris did an excellent job of portraying a "hit", and even in the snippet, he brought the connection between characters to life. The flashback mcdonalds portion of the story, open up the hit plot, in a very professional way, and didn't give away any future actions in the story. The descriptions were very vivid, and were chosen well for this piece, made it very enjoyable. Excellent piece chris!

3.Untitled/Burden.

The air was electric as the Warlock fell, cuffed and bound. The courtroom fell silent. You could cut the tension with a knife, nevermind a finger, King Mallev silently mused. The accused stood up warily, hatred etched upon his face like an insignia. He wore a black robe with purple hem, customary to his class, yet they hung on him like the finest silk. The purple hem signified a Level One Warlock, a trainee. His aura was disturbing. Could he be of noble descent? Surely not, the King reassured himself.

For me, this was a highly entertaining piece, and I couldn't just let it slip by without receiving some kind of recognition. With some refinings, I believe this could be an excellent piece, not that it's already not good. In this piece your images and story telling ability was blatantly portrayed. This had all the nuts & bolts to an excellent story, hopefully you'll post the rest soon.




2.It Ain't Evolution/Negrodamus.

This was a highly entertaining read, with vivid, structured descriptions. I do have my own minor gripes about the piece, but nothing major enough to point out to the public. It was a weird read to say the least, but again, highly enjoyable.




1.Micheal At Midnight/HighEngineChief.

She wimpers like a small puppy and i can see tears beginning to slowly drop down the side of her beautifully sculpted cheek bones. My stomach flutters, the excitement is emaculate.

Chief took a more narrative approach to the story, and I must say, the way he told it, would catch any readers attenion. To me this barely didn't make the top three pieces, I throughly enjoyed it. It was seriously grusome, morbid, and very graphic. So if you into that kind of thing, I suggest you check this out!

Top Three Writers


Note: There isn't really a large selection of writers that drop often, so I chose the three I am most impressed with over a gaping amount of time.

1.Chris Black:

Really, I don't see how anybody could argue with me choosing him. He's obviously a "big-time" here in the short stories forum, and most likely has been writing for several years. His short stories are my favorite on the site. He writes very professional like, with gripping descriptions, and it's obvious he has a natural story-telling ability.


2.LedgenZ:

LedgenZ..well, he has posted his fair share of stories in the forum, and all of them have gotten a positive reaction from the readers, including myself. He has proved himself time and time again that he's an excellent writer, and his stories are just another backing statement to the arguments. Now, I know he hasn't dropped any long, quality story lately, but look at his past pieces, and im sure there won't be any arguments.


3.Negrodamus:

I chose him not only because his story was very gripping to me, with very strong descriptions, but because, if im not mistaken, he is Constance/Diverged.. who was a force in the Short Stories forum for quite sometime. His story's are easily in the top three, and hopefully he will start dropping on a regular basis again.

Do you believe the Short Story forum is coming to life?:
You know, I never paid much attention to it...
But lately, I dunno...I think Chris Black's sigs started catching my attention...he had that one about a chick getting fucked on a sink...
Didn't think much of it at first, but I guess it stuck cuz a week or so later I pulled this old Word doc out I'd jotted a zombie story on and posted it...
Had to drop a link of feedback...read a few cat's stories...
Started liking.
So, yeah...me, Daz, Chris, Engivale...
I think that's "coming to life"...or the beginning of it.


Who are some of your favorite writers there?:
Only read Chris', Daz's, and Eng's shit so far...
Out of those three, I dunno...Chris, I guess...he's got a sick, unapologetic style...it's nice.


I read your story, is there anything special that influenced you to write that, or a spur of the moment kind of thing?:

Always been a zombie fan...always kind of wished the shit would happen for real. Put the two together...add in my serial killer knowledge, thoughts, ponderings...you've got my story.


Can you name any pieces inparticular that you enjoy?:

From where? Just in our forum...haven't read that many yet...Chris's "Limpio/Sucio" was my favorite so far...though I haven't gotten to the "fucked on a sink" one yet...
Eng's was nice...good killing and gore in that one...
Daz's was not my style, but I liked it just the same...much more emotion in that one...probably harder to write, or more painful to write, for sure.


Are you planning to continue posting stories?:

I think so...I'll try and pick up the hobby again...I have a vampire joint I wrote about 10 years ago or so, but it's on paper. Gotta transfer to pc, then maybe...if I don't re-read it and deem it sucks.
Or if I can even find it...it's been 10+ years.
But new shit? Yeah...I'll tap into that part of my brain again...I'd certainly like to.

Well firstly, how do you like being admin?:

I like it just fine...don't mind getting requests to do shit. I'm on most Mon-Fri, so...it's convenient.


What are some things that influence you to write?:

Same as everyone, I'd imagine. Childhood, upbringing, bitches, heartbreak...oh, and I hate being around people alot...so, when you got no one to talk to, you talk to the paper with your pen.


What are some of your other hobbies?:

I dunno...collecting sharp things...knives, swords, axes...doesn't even have to be a medieval looking one. I collect shit from Home Depot. If it's sharp, or can be sharpened, I probably own it.

And feeding my python...I can't wait for Saturdays. That's when I go to the pet store, buy me a mouse, rat, hamster, or gerbil...then bring it home and toss it into the snake's aquarium. It's alot of fun. Maybe not for you, but it's a trip for me everytime.

And of course, wife and kid time...let me not forget about them!

I'm hoping we can liven this area up...maybe even break out some tournaments and shit if we're really rolling. That'd be nice. An all new form of recognition here on RB. Personally, I think it'd be a real tight expansion project. Keep writing!!!

Closing

Ok, this wasn't my best mag ever, but I'm still proud of it. I had to rush a little on it, because of undisclosed personal issues, but nonetheless I presented a magazine, that covers a few different sections. Hopefully you all enjoy this, and take the time to fully read it. There isn't really a big selection of things to choose from in here, so I chose what impressed me, not what the members felt impressed them. So if you disagree with any of my choices, tell it to yourself in solilquies, because I could care less. I'd like to have help on a mag the next time, I just wrote this one by myself so that it would show people that when I say i'll do something, I will. Also, be on the lookout for a piece of mine sometime this month. Cheers!

Ok yeah, sorry guys. This is pretty short, but after I asked if I could make a mag, I found out I had to go back to court and other stuff, so this was a rush-job. Especially when I had to read through so many stories in two days. So hopefully you'll enjoy it, sorry if you don't.

I'm glad you guys like it, I figured because of it's shortness, people would think I half-assed it, but reading so many stories is really a time-consumer, and judging them is alot harder. I tried my past getting mentions to people that have contributed to the forum. I'd really like to see it go somewhere, so I figure that I'll start dropping some of my stories, and writing mags on a regular basis, if enough activity comes through. Hopefully the rest will appreciate the time it takes to even put a small mag like this together. Although, I know a few will leave snide remarks. Anywho, im rambling now.


Also: Chris, I believe "Nyce" had a good thought about making a HoF for here, it would really be a goal for people to get in, and I believe there is enough quality writers around to make the HoF fill out.
