A little difficult with all those fresh textees on it. :)
Sheesh guys. We should have a legendary slot for most blocks on RB!
Swag, I like your avy
^^check pm's
straight up, me and oatmeals battle isn't legendary then might as well just shut that legendary forum down because ain't another battle ever gonna get it
real talk
^^just read over the other legendary topical battles...I'd recommend others to do the same.
Absolutely agreed, but Oat's verse would have beaten anybody else, and could have beaten mine in fact, and vice versa with my verse. Same thing with our battle, neither of us really had any misses.. it was just a dope battle. The votes didn't do our battle justice, because it was much closer than they made it seem. Same with Oats and I.
I wish we could do something about the ancient legends. Like Oats pointed out, some of them are terrible, like I question how they're even HoF.
That said, I just assume some of it is context and style, you know? Like, the styles shift and change. I wonder how much of it is that.
But Oats is 100% correct... folks should re-read the best of legends and the best stuff outside of Legends. Honestly, there were elitists for years who just wouldn't let pieces in... despite being amazing in quality and far better than some piece in legends, they just wouldn't let them.
People will have to individually come up there own criterium, based upon the best OMs they've read.
What's more, and I've said it 1000 fucking times, we cannot set a strict criterium. Shit is all relativity.
Also, I re-read Token/Oat's battle...hhhhmmmmm
nothing needs to be done about the older legends.
some of the older legends are in for more than just quality of work. such as being extremely influential to the site.
legendary pieces *
Oats/Token... check your thread.
eh, i feel the same about the legendary pieces. they were the best products of their time period. and as time goes on, the bar gets raised higher.
@arch, i definitely think that battle deserves a nom. only reason i haven't done it is because i literally just did Philly and Tokens noms and i didn't want to just keep flooding the forum with them.
I know XM is going to be ghost, so theres no real full time mod in here. if token wants, i'll take over this forum and help keep it active as far as nominating goes. i'll keep an eye out for battles, pieces, etc that i think may have a shot at getting in and post them for people to vote on. hopefully that will cause less battles to get overlooked. obviously other people can nominate as usual.
^^ sounds like a good idea
I agree with everything said about past pieces not meeting up to current noms, and the current noms still getting turned down.
btw fuck this. the last poem to get inducted was in 07, and it was poeta's piece.
the majority of inductees have been from 03. so...
it's time for a new age, I say.
Someone should just take some of the old poetry shit out like we did with the hall of fame. The whole 'in the context of the time period' thing seems more relative to other areas of text born of the net like oms and text battles than it does to poetry. To be honest most of the pieces i've read seem more like bad OMs. Really shouldn't 'legendary' have more of timeless quality as opposed to 'it was good back when it was written'?
I checked out the other topical battles in Legends, and most of them were one-sided in votes, too. I've never suggested that older Legends pieces should get taken out, but just re-read so people can have a more accurate perspective for current battles. I like King's idea, and would be willing to help if needed.
agree'd.. poetry doesn't develop into something better over time... poetry will always n should b held to the same quality no matter what
Yessir. So in that case, just replace my two noms with the old ones and we'll call it a day :)
I wish it worked that way
Om nom nom.
i don't feel like quoting, but whoever said the shit about poetry being timeless was right... text evolves... but topical and poetry i'd think should be held to the same standard no matter what time... it doesn't change that much...
side note... token.. u know u need one more yes vote right
the irony
actually he had 13 votes (14 including the DQ'd vote), so I went ahead and closed it. Congrats, Token.
what do you guys think about having a "skunk" rule? Meaning, something gets nominated and the first X amount of votes are no's without any yes's, is it fair to close it? If so, how many no's is reasonable? I'm just trying to keep this forum less cluttered, because I feel like less people vote when there's shit everywhere. Or is it fine as is to let them linger for 2 months (remember, this would only happen if there are 0 yes votes). Thoughts?
7 straight... that's just over half of what's needed for yes... that makes sense imo...
I'd say 5 no's in a row for the KO.
thats a good idea
i agree that most of the stuff in legends, as far as poetry is concerned, is not good by today's standards.
my piece, "lucky brand me" is a million times better than my piece in there now("You"), and honestly, i wouldn't care if it were removed. but the other stuff, i believe it was great for the time. the bar has been consistently raised and we see how far our talent has come. some poets stopped writing, some of us kept at it because it's all we know. i've been writing poetry on rb since i first started writing poetry in a serious manner. that was 03, almost ten years now, and to see how far we have come is something to be proud of. i agree that the stuff nominated now is far beyond what we currently have in there. but the difference is that the nominations now have not moved me like the pieces that are currently inducted moved me when i first read them.
i believe in being genuine with your poetry. i believe it has to be more than pretty words. i was hoping freshadiddie would stay around, she had promise. im seeing improvement in writers that never impressed me before(dagel) and im glad some of you have taken an interest in poetry but this is something that i take great pride in.
^ i'm sure back in 03 when you read those poems you weren't an egotistic elitist were you
I don't like how you write. Get over it. Fucking baby.
Wish I had a legend moment... Damn I feel old and useless
Anyways word for the poetry comment it's not the point of getting better or it was weaknpoetry and topicals are too emotional and raw for somethngnlike that to be thought of as a standard that's why it's more o a toss up when put into battle cause you will never really know who feels te topic or grasps the better idea better then the other nah mean.....
No response needed from you Jon. I don't even know who you are really.
