the catcher in the Rye is a book for rebellious teenages. Holden is a rebel without a cause. he is searching for somehting rebel against, the search turns bad when he fails to find anything, and his rebellious ways end up ruining his life.
Holden breaks the rules and academic boundaries set by his teachers and his friends. he flunked out of fours schools including Pency, he flunks four subjects, and turns in a useless essay paper for history class which ultimately ends his life at Pency. When holden is asked to do a compostion by his room Stafradlater. He doesn't do it according to the rules given him instead, he writ4es about Allie's baseball glove. Holden does not follow or conform to the norm of Pency. While most people would go to the last football game of the year, Holden does not go to game. The students of Pency believes that sex with a girl is everything. Holden does not believes this, and has yet to be inimate with any girl, not even Jane Gallagher. Holden rebels against the rules of his society by drinking and smoking, and this things are against the law. Holden buys a whore but the only thing they do is talk. Holden's society believes that sex is everything, but Holden does not believe that sex is anything special at all so instead, of having sex with the lady all he does is talk to her. Holden's society confuses him, so instead of conforming he rebels, and his explusion from Pency only confuses him further.
When Holden is kciked out of Pency without their rules and basic structure, holden cannot find anything to rebel aggainst and this confuses him. Holden is lost without Pency, this is why he wonders teh street having conversations with cab drivers and adult strangers. He is looking for someone older then him to give him rules and boundaries to break, but he finds nothing. thye failure of his search also leads him to fantazies different scernios and dangerous situations. he fantasizes about death or being in dangerous positions. Holden is angered by his failure and this drives him to push away people. When he visits his sister, he sneaks to see her because he doesn't want ton see his parents, he even plans to run away. Phoebe, who he came to see, is even alienated by Holden. He lies to her about his plans.
