If that were true, then the San Antonio Spurs would never have won a championship, let alone 5 of them in the last 20 years. They’re not even the biggest market in their own state. The Knicks wouldn’t be as historically trash as they’ve been for years and years. They haven’t won a championship since the 70s and it’s easily one of the biggest markets in sports. They play at MSG for fuck’s sake. The Lakers wouldn’t have gone the last 5+ years without even so much as a playoff appearance. Golden State plays in OAKLAND of all places, at least until next year. Nowhere near the biggest market and they’ve dominated for the past half a decade.

Big market teams do tend to do better.

But not because the NBA is rigged, that's insane lol

They do better because it's more lucrative for good players to go play in those markets. So unless they have god awful ownership like the Knicks those teams will always attract better players at a higher rate than smaller market teams. And thus win more often.

Spurs are a great example of this playing out, that team is ALWAYS a playoff contender, has the best coach probably ever, yet they struggle to sign free agents. Their success comes thru the draft and their ability to develop players. The best small market franchise of all time and they aren't even on the radar for top free agents coz there's no money in San antonio

Or look at lebron going to the Lakers when there's a dozen better choices if u were looking to win. But if you're looking to make money there's no better place than LA
