Except if it works as they hope it will, it will benefit those future generations. So, leaving aside your presumably sarcastic racism, it's not a particular appropriate charge in the first place.
Whether the spend-the-way-out plan will work or not, i don't know. But some people obviously believe it will. The intent behind it is for the benefit of the country, he doesn't just want to be frivolous with a load of cash. It's like the healthcare thing - Obama wants public healthcare, why? So he can help the less fortunate? Well, duh. But for some, there simply must be an ulterior motive. In the case of healthcare, it's because he wants to plot to secretly euthanize the elderly. The socialism comparison is just silly imo. You have a million and one things in place in your country already that are 'sorta like socialism'. They would never be taken away, because the country benefits from them every day. People would fight to keep those things, because they have fought to have them put in place. The 'Socialism' cry is a bullshit tactic to scare a country that still shits itself any time anyone mentions communism. If free helthcare is 'dope', judge it on that.
And there have been presidents fighting for healthcare reform for decades and decades. This is nothing new.
But let's follow the logic you used, and make the opposite argument based on something that is actually true: America is the only developed capitalist country with a private healthcare system in place. Every other developed capitalist country has a public healthcare system in place, and as far as I know, none is seeking to return to a private system. Maybe there is a good reason?
Lastly, regarding the cost. America currently spends more on healthcare than any of the universal systems of other countries. If you weigh them up, public systems cost a hell of a lot less. Whether the US can manage to manage to replicate these much lower costs is the big question.
Based on all i have learnt of this subject, I definitely support healthcare reform. I would also hate to see the UK adopt a private system, but it isn't even a debate here. People support the NHS. I still don't know enough about the topic, but i've seen a lot of arguments against a universal system and none has convinced me. A lot have been based on outright lies and scare tactics, and all the valid ones that i have seen have been countered to my satisfaction.
Whatever the US does, it just needs to be feasible. If they can make reform feasible, i'm well behind it.

Its ashamed that someone that doesnt even live in this country understands politics in the country more than the average american, or at least more than your average RB member LOL. But i also have to assume that RB members are from all over the world.

well said though Phlymo, i couldnt have said it better myself... what people are missing is how healthcare reform will save this country money in the long run. Yes it cost to start a program of this scale. But is no reason not to do it. People that love their insurance can keep it, according to the plan Obama has proposed. I dont understand what is so wrong about that. For those that are tired of the insurance companies raping them and then NOT covering them after paying premiums forever just so they can make a profit want the option to have the govt insure their health. Its competition, what wrong with competition, if the insurance companies are so perfect then, they dont have anything to worry about right. All these insurance company advocates at these townhalls who love their health insurance will keep these companies in business. We dont have to worry about a certain portion of the population they will absolutely refuse to let the govt give them coverage. Well until they get dropped for having some condition the insurance company doesnt cover. I guess these people will have to have something taken away from them (their job, their insurance coverage, or even worse their ability to work because of illness) before they realize that the proposals put forward can help them in the future..

thats link is sorta interesting, its like all the presidents attempts at healthcare reform sort of paved the way for Lyndon Johnson's health care reform measures. Each president sorta learned formt he effect of each others policies and tried to improve on it.

Well, you weren't actually cracking a joke. You claimed you were making an 'observation' which was rooted in bullshit. But still - the comedy thing is a tricky issue, and one i can't get my head fully around myself. But there is, in my opinion (but i accept others disagree), a difference between a disprivileged minority making racial jokes and a historically privileged and still privileged majority making similar jokes. There is simply more at stake in one case, but it's complicated.
