I'm just saying it brought me back to the time when I wasn't living in the areas I'm used to when I heard the bar, like a blast from the past...while also being a fire bar it brought back memories.

Yea and at a certain point you’re comparing apples and oranges when it comes to battle rap rounds. Like Fresco’s 3rd was more clean and technical than Lux’s, had more complex flow/multis, and crazier concepts/wordplays etc. A lot of it is subjective and style preference.

But from a truly soul snatching battle rap round, obviously nothing will probably ever top that Lux round vs. Calicoe. He probably lost the first two rounds and nobody even cares because the cultural impact of that shit was unparalleled.

yeah i found the write ups pretty interesting, and the criteria is a mixed bag from what i saw. the top three were chosen for completely different reasons. illmac’s was for the complexity of the scheme, verb was for the iconic moment, and lux was for the way he literally changed the game. i think once u get to the cream of the crop u can really pick out the best verses because theyre not just strongly written, they also have some sort of impact on the culture/art itself. i think in terms of raw technical skill, illmac’s verse probably epitomizes that “nerdy” KOTD style

Illmac’s is the one where he’s talkin bout how the “battle hasn’t happened yet and how you think it’s gonna go at the actual event” or whatever right?

Yeah it’s been a few years since I’ve watched that battle. It’s overdue to run it back.

I’ve seen both them dudes battle live and chopped it up with Illmac, he’s super chill. Just saw him vs. Real Sikh in Houston for TBL Apollo earlier this year. Saw Bigg K when had that fire ass first vs. Rum in Oakland on KOTD.
