Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
daaaamn you naming all the hits. Midnight Mass was straight bonkers. HoHH was good too so was Bly Manor.
& Dr Sleep??? maaaan that shit triggered my sleep paralysis ptsd like crazy.
i’m absolutely convinced that King is fictionalizing actual metaphysical/supernatural occurrences as a way to explain them the best way he can. he admitted that he was tripping on lucy’s for much of his early adulthood & doesn’t even recall writing some of his most famous stories due to it. so it’s entirely plausible to me that his heavy psych drug use opened a channel in his creative mind that allowed him to be a conduit for these stories that are faction but based on actual entities..
for instance.. Dr Sleep. those energy vampires remind me of astral entities/shadow people that prey on kids who have the natural ability to astral project or have lucid dreams without knowing what they are, how to control them or how to keep themselves psychically protected while in the astral realm. & this “shine” that they give off is what draws the beings to them. i feel like these beings feeding off that energy is what causes sleep paralysis and other night terrors.
i’ve written about this at length on other websites. fascinating & terrifying.

Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
I'm convinced King is probably either a pedophile or a serial killer but yeah. Creative writer.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Lmao. i think Spielberg is the pedo, so King must be the killer.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
King wrote about kids getting molested or raped a lot. Also did a full child train in IT. Pretty sure he admitted he was sexually assaulted when he was younger but still. Hurt people HURT people.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
you right about that sewer ritual. suspect as hell. been so long since i read IT i forgot all about it.

Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Finally got around to Alein Romulus
Cool movie. does the franchise justice. Im glad to see face huggers get more of a presence in this one. I always thought they were just as terrifying as the actual alien. I didnt really understand the need for the autistic droid though lol
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Diversity i guess lol. Autistic and black.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
speaking of diversity, just peeped Shadow in the Cloud. Lol. i liked it. blended two of my favorite genres, period war movie/creature feature. but damn did it go through some editorial changes throughout. went from being tonally tense/lightly-serious to a comedy somewhere along the way & even though it didn’t bother me, it was noticeable. def a movie to watch w/ a chick lol.
pretty sure the only reason i liked it as much as i did though is cuz Chloe Grace Moretz is sexy as fuck. blonde chicks aren’t typically my preference but something about her makes me wanna let a few million loose on her ovaries.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Kinda how I felt about Ginger Snaps. First half of the movie is way better than the second half. Almost like they ran out of budget and just coasted to the end.
If you're into diversity. I Saw The TV Glow is getting a lot of praise. LGBTQ film. Pays homage to Buffy The Vampire Slayer and is an interesting metaphor/approach about a man who wants to be a woman but is too scared to follow through while his crazy best friend tries really hard to get him to take that step. I wouldn't watch it twice personally but that's probably because I'm a straight white male.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Ginger Snaps lmao.. that’s definitely a similar vein. sadly werewolf movies have always had that shittish quality about them. old school ones like American Werewolf & Silver Bullet notwithstanding, also a few newer ones like Van Helsing, Dog Soldiers, Wolf, Underworld 1-2 & the prequel are noteworthy. need better wolf movies though. saw a preview for a Wolfman reboot coming out that looks like it could be aight though.
i heard about the Glow movie. read a review from a “cultural reviewer” who called it “grade A psychological horror for a new black generation”. the “for a new black generation” stuck out to me & had me wondering why that choice of wording was used so i decided to check it out, also cuz i like Justice Smith as an actor.. but when i realized it was a transgender allegorical tale written by a jewish woman about a black/biracial dude, i just got turned off immediately. i’m not prejudiced, but i’m really tired of this lgbt agenda being forced down the throats of an entire demographic by writers & showrunners who are not of that culture. same reason i hated Lovecraft Country & the Watchmen sequel show(among other reasons). these jewish hollywood writers/producers love injecting their vision of other cultures into their work & it’s getting old as hell at this point. dumb as hell to try to address the “toxic masculinity” people complain about black dudes by creating fiction that rationalizes it all as stemming from repressed homosexuality or gender dysphoria/dysmorphia lmao. emasculation at it’s finest.
now even though i just went on a tangent about it, i may still watch it.. just probably in a year from now when the single solitary viewing from my account won’t positively affect viewership statistics lmao.
anyway, my bad for the rant. the moment took me.

Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
The director is trans. They said it's a personal movie influenced by their own issues.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
yea that’s what they all say lol. & it’s all well & good with me, honestly. i don’t mind personal stories. my thing is, if it’s about you, make it represent you. people would still watch it.
i mean, i understand that actors audition for roles & there’s no way of knowing if there was a specific type in mind, but i been finding more & more recently that media meant to depict my so-called “culture” is always rife with homoerotic undertones.
now that i’m thinking about it though, it could also be the tendency of certain social media/news media outlets to just automatically latch onto content that has black actors in it simply off that fact alone, whether it’s made for that audience or not.
either way, it’s madd annoying lol. it’s like black people cant be depicted in media anymore unless they’re gangbanging or gaybanging.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
I mean. There's definitely layers in the movie that represents the director lol. You just gotta be a little more open minded. Like I said. It's technically a good movie. Just not a concept I personally connect with.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
yeah yeah lol. open minded. i’ll check it out on a date night probably. make sure i watch it from my girl’s account lol
- - - Updated - - -
i just finished watching season 2 of Gyeongseong Creature. dope show. Koreans know how to make good horror content. impatiently waiting for Hellbound season 2 to come out tomorrow. season 1 was so fucking good. the way the hell apes killed people was straight barbaric.

Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
I need to see Smile 2 and Terrifer 3 still.

Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Jordan Peele flicks come up in this discussion already? I fucking love Us, liked Get Out too. I haven’t seen Nope yet, saving it for a special occasion but I’ve already had part of the ending spoiled for me (thanks Twitter).
The guy’s got a real talent for infusing his shit with thematic heft without becoming too lofty to be fun.
On the loftier side of things though, have you ever seen Begotten? That one’s worth a watch, although I saw it on shrooms so I don’t know if I would’ve been as good sober. A black and white arthousey type thing with no dialogue, starts with a scene of a god disembowelling itself.
Even more obscure, there’s a Russian theatre company called BlackSkyWhite who I’ve seen live several times at festivals in England. Industrial music with very strange metamorphic costumes and otherworldly movement, lighting etc. Some of the most intense horror experiences I’ve had in my life (again psychotropics may or may not have played a part in my enjoyment, but it’s sick regardless). If you ever find Astronomy For Insects that one’s a classic, I was lucky enough to pick it up on dvd at one of their live shows.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Alien Romulus was good, loved that it was inspired by Alien Isolation which is probably the scariest game I've ever played once. The last 15 minutes were fucking awesome.

I'm a big Peele fan. Nope, US, Get Out. The candyman requel was kinda him to. He was an executive producer on it and I liked that too. Look forward to his next film.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Jordan Peele is a genius. all his movies were enjoyable, some more than others. Nope’s probably my favorite. i don’t get unsettled by too many films & that one did it. Candyman was cool too. as a big OG Candyman fan, i was left a little wanting but i still bought a copy lol.
people hate on the Alien franchise but every installment was a banger in it’s own right. even the AvP movies were dope. definitely top 5 horror franchises of all time in terms of quality. top 3 for me.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
I'll be honest. Maybe it's because I'm only 31 or maybe I'm just not a fan... but the new alien movie is the only one in thoroughly enjoy lol. Don't care for predator either but liked Predators and Prey.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
you telling me you never felt a tingle in your trousers when you watched Ellen Ripley roll up on the Queen with a fucking power loader talkin bout “Get away from her you BITCH”
first Predator & Prey are my favorites as far as the horror aspect but Predators is a highlight cuz it’s like an action/adventure/sci fi mash up kinda like The Mummy w/ Brendan Fraser. plus you can’t go wrong with Laurence Fishburne. Predator 2 is iconic cuz that “Want some candy?” scene has been living rent free in my head ever since childhood lol. something about a hyper intelligent super lethal non terrestrial creature w/ cloaking abilities ominously mimicking an innocent human gesture before completely eviscerating someone is still a top tier genre moment for all time lol.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Yeah, no lol. Just feels outdated to me.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
I liked the first three Alien movies, haven’t seen any beyond that. My theory is that the early ones feel outdated now because they introduced (innovated or at least popularised) a lot of genre tropes which have since been copied to the extent that they feel tired.
For example, the scene where they’re looking for the alien and it’s ramping up the tension as they go to open the cupboard, but then get jumpscared by a cat leaping out. Seeing that for the first time now I’d roll my eyes, but at the time that technique was way more fresh and effective.
I think a lot of classics tend to be victims of their own success in that way.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
i can’t believe he said Ripley being badass doesn’t make his dong dance. i don’t know what to believe anymore.
what’s he going to say next, that he wouldn’t let Sarah Connor pump his 12 gauge until he terminates his load all over the skynet?
i shudder at the answer.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
nah, first and second Alien/s was lightyears ahead of its time and genre defining. I would go so far as to say, there has not been an actual SCARY alien horror movie since Alien and Aliens.
The only Alien movie I hate in the Alien franchise was AVP Requiem, but mostly because they completely ruined the film by making everything so dark you cant even make out what you are looking at.
I also think Predators 2010 version was highly underrated. The first Predator is a masterclass as well.
I also realize I grew up in a different era then most of you, so I actually saw how genre defining these movies were when they came out.
Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Aliens were definitely the big 3 movies that started my early love for horror movies.

Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Terrifier 3 was awesome. I still think Allie's death in Terrifier 2 is the most brutal kill in the series so far, Terrifier 3 certainly pushes the limits on realism when it comes to the kills. Again, I wont say much, but there is one scene where I think if you showed it to someone who didn't know, it would have passed as a real murder on film. Has all the gore, craziness, and disgusting you can ask for. Not a lot of story going on here, they touch a little bit on what Art actually is without killing any of the mystery about his character. Movie is a good time for people like me who loves crazy gory practical effects. I loved seeing Tom Savini in the movie too because him and Damien Leone is probably my favorite practical effects people in the business today
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
I'll probably see it this upcoming week. The first is probably my favorite still tbh. I liked that it was more realistic and didn't have any of the supernatural stuff. Not to take anything away from the second because it's good too but it felt like a whole different movie.

The supernatural elements started before the actual Terrifier series with The 9th Circle and even All Hallows Eve to an extent.
I really do like the low budget grind housey feel of the first one though. It is a different type of movie from the other 2 in the actual Terrifier series.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
I think I've seen All Hallows Eve once. Never seen the other one. I've seen Terrifier more times than I can count and I've seen the second probably five times. I'm pretty split between the hang woman scene in the first one and the bedroom dismemberment in the second so far.

the hang woman scene was kind of ruined for me because I saw Bone Tomahawk before Terrifier and it had almost an identical scene, but arguably, a little more brutal

damn bro no mention of the OG Halloween?? still best musical score in all of horror. Phantasm is another one with a dope score.

i gotta peep Terrifier 3. had no idea it was part of a connected universe branching to other films. i’m gonna watch all them shits… & yeah Bone Tomahawk did the Terrifier bisection scene way better. Kurt Russel sells the absolute SHIT outta that scene. deffo on a top horror death list somewhere.

The problem with the Halloween is when i started getting into horror Halloween 4 released and it wasn't that great at all. By then, I was already into the 3 mentioned. I had to go back and watch the Original Halloweens.
Im a fan of Halloweens, but Alien/Nightmare On Elm St./F13th certainty hooked me in.
There are a ton of old school horror films that live at the top of my list even to this day . . . Texas Chainsaw, Exorcist, House On Haunted Hill, The Howling, Poltergeist, Amityville, Pycho, Living Dead Movies, children Of the Corn, and i could go on and on
My absolute favorite horror movie of all time is The Changeling (1980). I had no clue what a ghost was until I seen that movie.
My favorite TV shows as a kid was always horror as well. Twighlight Zone, Tales From the Darkside, Tales From The Crypt, Creepshow, Freddys Nightmare, Werewolf, Elvira Movie Macabre, Monsters, The Hitchhiker, Alfred Hitchcock Presents etc. . .
good times

Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
My first horror movies was Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Blair Witch Project. I was born in 93 so... yeah. I'm very much a product of the 90s and 2000s.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
@Soule
, daaaamn. 93 bro.. you grew up in the era of sexy legs Machelle Gellar & super breast Love Hewitt so it entirely makes sense why Ripley & Sarah Connor don’t do it for you lmao. i understand now. and i feel old as fuck hahaha.
@Nohbody
hotdamn bro you names some absolute bangers. took me straight back to my youth. i’ll never forget Creepshow’s “Thanks for the ride lady!” scene.. got me thinking about Kolchak Night Stalker & The Outer Limits too.. Nightmare on Elm St was the first horror movie i ever watched.. scared me shitless lmao. i loved it & needed more. wasn’t allowed to watch Ft13th at home though cuz my mom didn’t like all the sex but when i saw the first Halloween?! i knew i found my favorite series. Mike was just too cold & the way Loomis would talk about the psychology of him & the music.. ugh. fucking hooked. all time favorite horror movie though is still Candyman. the music, atmosphere, tragic villain arc, made it much more than a horror movie for me.. people have asked me what my favorite love story is and when i mention that movie their reactions are hilarious. another classic anthology banger is Tales from the Hood. oohh and Cat’s Eye!

Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
Yeah my generation definitely focused more on tits and ass lol.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
something horror fans the world over are thankful for lol. a highlight in the golden era of slash, when it became less about the supernatural elements and more about the.. super natural (or sometimes augmented) elements :boobies:

Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
I feel like most of the women in 80s and 70s had solid tiddies but not much else. Then you got women in the 90s and 2000s like Jennifer love huge tit's, Catherine Isabelle (ginger snaps, Freddy vs jason) Jennifer tilly (bride of chucky), Danielle Harris (Rob Zombies Halloween), Tiffany Monaco (idle hands), Tania Raymonde (Texas chainsaw massacre 2013), Alexandria dondario (Texas chainsaw massacre 3D) and a lot of others who had the full package.
-
Re: October/Halloween horror movie watch list
fucking done@jennifer love huge tits
but yeah.. 90’s chicks and beyond are just built different… i chalk it up to being the one thing GMO’s in the food did right lol.
