Should explanations be allowed at the end of text battle verses?

Unfuckwitable seems to think so.

Blas and Spit seem to want them.

MV needs them.

Personally I think it’s a terrible idea and you should be writing well enough that they’re not needed.

What’s the general consensus here?

I actually agree with you here. I always thought if you had to explain your bar, then you have a bad bar. I guess they should be allowed, but I definitely take points off for it.

2. If you have to explain your bar/concept/wp/etc, you prob shouldn’t post it
3. It’s pretty cringe


Now on the other hand, I think everyone is guilty of posting obscure concepts or wp every so often, in which it should be up to the voters to do research on if they so choose to.

But you should not be explaining your bars in your battles.

I’ll tell you this much, since it’s apparently a hot take around these parts these days:

I am def not googling your work for you if you can’t even make your own line understandable for me.

Imagine a live battle and you spit a line with no reaction because the crowd don’t get it.

So you take the time to explain why it was fire to a room full of crickets or ask them to google it.

I feel like I've seen a couple of guys do that on URL lately, stop cuz they didn't get the reaction they wanted, and kind of explain it.

It’s people on here from different walks of life that use different slangs and have a different dialect… if we use URL as an example of text battling let’s broaden it a bit … the same lines that people understand in KOTD might not be understood at all that’s my point someone asked me what O’s and Zips are … in NY that’s a given but maybe where some people are from it’s never been heard of

I jus don’t understand why u would either google a line when u already here or rather not understand it purposely

I don't care what they do in their verses. If they want to include explanations that's no different to me than providing context with quotes to create understanding for a personal concept you're about to deliver. Do whatever you want, most people think it's corny anyways.

I have never visited the US in the my life, and it’s pretty obvious to anyone involved in this culture what an O and a Zip is, tbh.

Even just sprinkling in a little word association in the setup line maybe would result in people being able to make that connection. I get the example, but it’s a poor one IMHO.

People think quote marks are corny but like full blown homo verses lmaooo that’s what confuses me but yea I feel like everyone should text in their style … all the OGS tryna keep the format the same lol

It should def be a sort of points-deduction at the very least if you’re relying on one to explain yourself.

Mine you, I see a lot of people type “vs Wordz aka RedditSexTips” at the start of their verses to give people a heads up for a line coming later in the verse. I actually don’t mind those so much, in truth, but it’s kind of an expo itself I guess.

i dunno,

sometimes you drop a personal on someone and you have people voting on the battle that may not pick up on it because they are new or just don't know

but nobody should have to have a half page expo for every bar... and there should never be a exo for things like name flips

so i guess my answer is, it might be acceptable in some situations. You drop a bar that you think hits hard af IF everyone knows the backstory to it... but its something that should be done with cautious moderation at the most

I do think verses are better when you can get the point across without having to back peddle and explain stuff though
